As far as distribution of spiritual gifts, they too can be received through the laying on of hands as in the case of Timothy (1 Tim 4:14) or spontaneously. The Holy Spirit flows through born again believer giving a word of knowledge, discerning of spirits, etc. in order to fulfill God's purposes here on earth:

"For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

You need to prove what you say from scripture. Here is what Scripture says about the Holy Spirit in Acts. If you say more than this, you adding to scripture. Baptism of the Holy Spirit in Acts chart.png

I know this to be true because of the word, and secondly because of my personal experience that aligned with the word:

I received the baptism of the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues when I was very young. Years later I got water baptized "in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost." Afterward, upon seeing that all recorded water baptisms were done in the name of the Lord Jesus I was water baptized that way. For me, personally, afterward my spiritual eyes were indeed open. (John 3:3) I could "see" (understand) scriptures with greater clarity than in the past.

During prayer, my language changes to tongues as well at times when I am singing.

About ten years later, God imparted the Spiritual gift of tongues upon me that was interpreted by another for edification of the church body. I had not been seeking the gift, however, while praising God in the worship service He decided to flow through me and speak a message to the congregation.

As I was praising God I could feel His presence stronger than in times past; so strong in fact, I sensed something was definitely different but had no idea what was going on. As I praised the Lord someone to my left began to speak in tongues. I remember thinking Lord if that is what you wanted me to do I would have done it. Immediately the individual stopped speaking. I felt what can only be described as an internal explosion; a feeling of complete fullness that my body could not contain. To my utter dismay the fullness began pouring out in the form of tongues. There I was, normally the shy, quiet one, loudly proclaiming half of a message that was afterward interpreted. I say half, because the interpretation began and part way through the message there was a distinct pause. The proclaimed message began with the other individual and was picked up and concluded through me.

On the drive home I could not help re-living the incident over, and over in my mind. I was amazed at what had occurred. I questioned the Lord about the explosive feeling. His answer was not audible, I heard it in my mind, “I consumed the sacrifice.” I was in awe. I realized that God would only use my vocal cords to speak to His people if I was willing for Him to do so.

1900s American Pentecostals mixed voodoo tongues with Wesley Methodism thinking they were the same. I can prove many times over they are not genuine today.

Why do they leave when the unsaved Jesus never knew cast them out?

The gifts were given to equip the saints (born again believers) for the work of the ministry. Born again believers are still calling out to others to accept Jesus as their savior.

You are saying scripture is not perfect when Paul does.
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (KJV 1900)

So that is the game we are playing? Is it because you can't provide the evidence or do you just not know how to respond? You never post scripture and I have done more than my fair share the evidence has been presented to you all over this thread by many wise and insightful members with the scriptures to boot, I would advise you to take their wisdom into consideration and study the word more deeply.

How can you prove voices in your head are God speaking and you are not crazy? I can prove the bible is God speaking.

I never said that hearing voices is not a good mental sign but at the same time I was also saying it isn't like he hasn't used unusual methods before either. You always ask for proof from everyone especially your opposition of the gifts and tell people to raise the dead to prove the gifts yet you yourself never give proof of any kind and only give your own view and opinion yet demand this of everyone else

You will debate until you are blue but when backed into a corner demand proof unwilling to give your own. You act as if you know the truth and everyone is wrong or crazy.
you lack the ability to learn and take wise council you voice your opinion as if fact demand proof yet give nothing else and when presented by the scriptures you ignore them even though you say how it is his voice you ignore them and refuse to answer the question or scripture you instead try to change the attention to something else
As it is now you are not suited for debating properly, which is why I said you should take others wise coincil into consideration and study the scriptures deeper because until you learn to listen and learn all you are doing is senseless arguing

I have much proof that nobody speaks in tongues today. And if they do it is from the wrong spirit.

Here's a biggie. Paul says those who speak in tongues edify themselves. He also says understanding what is said is the basis for edification. So, original tongue speakers knew what they were saying. Today's tongue speakers do not know what they are saying.

Again no, I believe this is the scripture you are speaking of correct?


14 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. 2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue[a] does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. 4 Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues,[b] but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues,[c] unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.

The word edify means to build up strenghten teach and grow, and Paul does say it edifies us but then goes on to say that they are not speaking to men in this instance but to God and no one understands them because they speak by the spirit. This is what I am talking about when I mention around the forums how in that intimate moments we speak to him and express things that the human tongue simply has no word for, those deep unexpressable adoration love reverence gratefulness joy everything we feel for him but are unable to express it in words because the human tongue simply cannot it is just to deep.
He then goes to speak about prophecy which even says here it is not about seeing the future but about edifying encouraging building up and bringing the church closer to God

These are two different gifts but the tongues also has an interpreter for when the tongue spoken is not for ones self but for the church there is more than one purpose and more than one kind of tongues as the scripture says and it even says to seek and love the gifts especially prophecy because those who excel in encouraging building strengthening and lighting the fire in the churches hearts are what a prophet is.

I explained this in my thread the difference between a prophet and prophecy, so no you completely missed the point of the scripture

Your second statement "understanding is the basis of edification" is not what Paul said. You might claim "understanding is what edifies the understanding" but he starts off clarifying that the speaking in tongues he's talking about is NOT understood by man because it is not spoken TO man...yet it edifies the speaker (just not the speaker's understanding).
