Why Is Pineapple on Pizza SO Controversial?!

Dunno, never been to one.
We were on vacation once, and were going to go eat at our usual stop only to find it was gone :eek: and was replaced with that. We didn't try it. I left hubby and the kids waiting in the car, walked in to check it out, and walked right back out again. It was all you can eat pizza/ salad buffet style, I forget the price at the time but it didn't appeal to our needs at the time. If I had been by myself... ehhh maybe.

They built one close by about a year and a half ago. Before that the closest to us was over an hour away. We loved their Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza (okay for those wondering: the sauce wasn't pizza sauce. It was a mix of ketchup and mustard), and we loved the BBQ Chicken Pizza (again, not pizza sauce, but a BBQ sauce). Sadly, around here they discontinued both :(
I craved those during at least one pregnancy; hubby made the two hour round trip just to get them for me.

pizza hut was great until it became a maruianna store too.

I love pineapple on pizza, it pairs well with Pepperoni too!

I’ve recently discovered Indian pizza and my local spot has the option to add chunks of mangoes and all the “Desi” style ones come topped with cilantro. They are amazing oh so very mesmerizing! But I am afraid of having become addicted so please pray for me that I can fast for the next month and stop these overwhelming desires to indulge more often than necessary 🫣😓

First, howdy and welcome to the forum.

Second, why not? Original Pizza was a large round of bread with a light topping of sprinkled cheese and toasted onion. We are so far away from original Pizza that we might as well do all that other stuff too.

Is there an Aldi in your area? The Aldi around here sometimes has very interesting pizzas. The most interesting I have seen so far there was spinach, onion and sweet mustard. Yes all that on a pizza. It was actually pretty good.

I definitely agree!!
Anchovies = vile abomination imo
Unlike a lot of people in this thread, I do not like pineapple on my pizza. But, if I had to make a mandatory choice between anchovies and pineapple...give me extra pineapple lol :p

I appreciate your insights as I had no clue that was the original pizza recipe but it makes sense since it probably came to be at a time where meat rations where probably significantly less. I did see a cool documentary a while back, over dramatized, on the History Channel about the legacy of Dominoes vs PizzaHut and it was quite entertaining.

That’s awesome that they are fulfilling the needs of the adventurous palates. There always really is something out there for someone and I hope whoever enjoys it, does so to the fullest!

I would love to see the selection but the closest one to me is about 100 + miles out. Stores like Sprouts occasionally will carry some with goat cheese and fruit on it and those can occasionally be delicious too.

May every adventurous pizza recipe you try be a finger licking one 🤌🍕

We all know the infamous controversy about pineapple as a topping on pizza:

BUT, I've always wondered exactly WHY it's so reviled. Is it because:

* Pineapple is a fruit, and fruit should never be on pizza.

* Pineapple is sweet, and sweet shouldn't be mixed with a savory food.

But if this is true, what about things like sweet and sour? Why does one combination work and not the other?

* Is there something just inherently evil about pineapples? Is pineapple somehow a fruit of the devil?

* And (the reason I'm posting this in the Family sections.) if/when your family members disagree on toppings, how many different pizzas do you have to order so everyone is happy?

I have some family members who like a few "unconventional" pizza styles, such as yes, the infamous pineapple, along with BBQ chicken (my least favorite of the ones they've tried,) all-vegetable, and "white" pizza, usually involving spinach and sometimes artichokes. Sometimes when I go to visit, that might be all they've fixed or ordered, so I've learned to not be very picky-- or chances are, I won't get fed. :cry: (And don't we ALL show up when a free meal is involved?!) :ROFL:

Whether you think pineapple on pizza should be beloved or bemoaned, it's time to square off!! 🥊

Leave your thoughts, comments, and reasons as to why YOUR opinion is RIGHT (because that's what we do here on the forum :LOL:,) and tell us why the opposing side is COMPLETELY WRONG (obviously!) :cool:

I do not understand the controversy. Real pizza has ham on it. Vegetable pizza is a practical joke. Pineapple on pizza is fine. Ham and pineapple is a well known recipe, so why not on pizza?

My local pizza place has the best pizza in the world, no exceptions. I can barely lift one, there is so much topping. My wife lets me have one once a month. She has BBQ chicken; I have meat lovers.

Dominoes and Pizza Hut do not make pizzas. The cardboard box of Pizza Hut is more appetising.
