What Is Happening in Canada??

I really don't want to do a comeback. But why are some of you hitting on Canada? I don't go around hitting on the US but it seems some of you go out of your way to do a smackdown on Canada. Did you even notice what the actual op is? Healthcare here is a big fat mess. And you know it.

My entire point being why go out of your way to dump on Canada? What are your motives? I think it says alot about how some people think here and it says alot and not in a good way.

Well here's the thing, I came here legally and I have had less rights than if I just run the border. If you don't have a Greencard you can't vote. You can't depend on the gov't for help, I had to be sponsored into the country. I live and pay taxes here, I am married to a US citizen and still have less rights than illegals here. And if you don't have insurance for health you're going to pay a fortune if you get sick. None of this should be true. It should be easier for people who are coming legally and harder for the criminals running the border.

Just so. Same here. I have only contributed positively to this country.

Illegals have burdened both systems. I don't know if it's beyond repair. My cousin lived in England and he said they had both systems. Not sure if he was right about that or not. But really the subject is about free speech in Canada, as you said. That is my biggest fear for my family.

Thank you! I just finished my five year follow-up, as my cancer care started right at the beginning
of the covid crazies, so all things considered, it was all taken care of in a very timely manner.

It is opposed by Jordan Peterson. He well knows how oppressive the Canadian legal system can be. He made the mistake of calling men men and women women. Canadians are supposed to have free speech, but that is a joke. So many hold up Canada as some kind of example of niceness and goodness. Justin Trudeau trod the path to authoritarianism. Maybe that will change. We can only hope and Canadians can pray.

C-9 protects people from hate speech, supposedly. The trouble is defining hate speech. Muslims use such laws to promote their evil agenda while whining about anyone who calls them out. God will ensure the destruction of Islam as Jesus was revealed to destroy the works of the devil. It could get messy before that happens.

Well free speech has already been dumbed down. There have been pastors arrested in Canada for speaking biblical truth. Quebec may be the most secular province in Canada (not sure but I think so?)

And now we have this gem: Pastor in Canada arrested for failing to comply with a court order apology to the LBGTQ for comments he made.
Derek Reimer was taken away in handcuffs for rejecting a court order to apologize after criticizing a drag queen event targeted at children.
A Calgary pastor charged with hate-motivated crimes stemming from an altercation at a children's library drag event has been arrested again, the third time in the past five weeks.

Derek Reimer appeared briefly before a justice of the peace on Wednesday as the Crown indicated it plans to apply to revoke his bail.

Reimer was protesting near another drag storytime event when he was arrested on outstanding warrants. He now faces eight new offences, including criminal harassment, causing a disturbance and breaching his release conditions.

And C-9 is not even an actual passed bill yet. Your instinct on Carney was right. Many people have been leery of him.

Canadians have freedom of expression as a fundamental right under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, protecting speech, thought, and media, but it's not absolute and faces reasonable limits for things like hate speech, defamation, or threats, balancing individual rights with public safety and other rights, meaning you can't say anything without consequence.

Why the comment on so many people hold up Canada as an example of niceness and goodness? Do not make the mistake of painting with such a broad brush over an entire country. As it is, the actual reflection on Canada, is that Canadians are largely POLITE; nothing about being nice all the time and certainly not good.

I know alot of people hold Peterson as some kind of guru but I've heard him say things that make me cringe. I don't think he appeals to everyone but definatly a hero to some. But that's another story.

C-9 was never constructed to protect anyone. I don't know if you listened to the video I posted on the 1st page, but as explained in the video, Canada already has very effective laws that would protect people from actual hate speech....such as the current anti-Jew climate in Canada, but they laws are being ignored.

C-9 is designed to shut down individuality and designed to create a nation of people who are afraid to say anything and especially AGAINST the government. Control is the actual desired effect. People are really up in arms about it and it might not pass. Apparently Carney is king of censorship. The problem there, is that he is building up such a large pile of dirt, that it is getting harder to 'hide it under the carpet' so to speak. Trudeau may have tried to be effectual at control, but he lost popularity by the time the 2nd election rolled around and finally left in disgrace. There is a video of him stealing a chair and he looks up at a camera and sticks his tongue out while laughing.

My mother mentioned this but I didn't think it happened in Canada. She was fairly certain it did. Apparently she was right. I mean, how do they fight this? Aren't people still in jail from when the truckers crossed Trudeau?

Yes I'm Cdn, married to an American for over 20 yrs. I only sold my house up north about 9 yrs ago and moved down here. Believe me, I was not and I am not desperate to become an American. I did not marry my husband to move to the US. People talk about the so called 'American Dream', which it seems is becoming nightmare fodder for many. We have our home bought from the proceeds of my home so good for us I guess.

Yes I sure do remember the trucker strike. That @#$*! Trudeau froze all their bank accounts AFTER he fled Ottawa as you say. He is a coward and not an example of any Canadian I know. Carney is revealing himself to be another one worlder. He is a failed banker, having worked in England with a record he would just as soon we all do not check up on.

I am not nor have I ever been anti American. It gauls me that some Americans think Canada is some kind of 3rd world country. I am serious about that. My dad was in the RCMP and did border patrol one summer. That was some years back but he was taken aback at the sheer ignorance of some visiting Canada with at least one person wanting to know where the Eskimos were. Canadians, by and large, are not ignorant of the US. We are well educated, have a sustainable health plan if they would quit giving it away to so called immigrants and and we are known throughout the world as a people who can be depended on.

I'm going to drop something here that I have been thinking for awhile now. All of this America 1st? I don't have the best feeling about it. Sorry, I just don't. I don't believe Trump is a Christian either. There is no evidence of it.
