Jesus ministry was continued through the apostles

Is Barnabas an apostle? If so, who chose him? Men or Christ?

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak…”

the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away."

The Holy Spirit said... Where was this written? Of course it wasn't written. The teachers and prophets heard this directly from the Spirit.

And then the Holy Spirit, by inspiring the scripture, clearly calls Barnabas an apostle:

"But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard this, they tore their clothes..."

Paul did not meet the requirements of a witness to Jesus’s ministry, baptism, death, and resurrection. He did not see them with his own eyes and could not have stood with Peter as he gave the account to the Jews.

OK so if I understand you, when you say possession, you mean possession as in no control over yourself? Did I get that right?

Where do you get it was forbidden for women to prophesy? At any rate, how do you apply that to the gift of NT prophecy?

I'm not watching those videos.
When Elizabeth prophesied, Jesus wasn't born. And after Jesus' resurrection, Paul was going over the people rules on how they treated the women. And in the Gospel of Thomas that it confirmed how they saw the women. One of the disciples told Jesus that Mary shouldn't be there with the men discussing business.
Both Jesus and Paul were trying to convince the men to accept them as equals. That there's no male or female, no Jew nor Greek, but all are one body. That they should treat everyone as equals.

The reason they didn't added Thomas gospel is that there's a quote that Jesus told the disciples not to send her away, that He'll make her as the way males are. They ones who composed the Bible thought that the readers may not interpret that verse correctly, that they may think Jesus was promoting homosexuality. But Jesus was actually referring to making women of Christ not to give into temptation so quickly, that they'll have the strength to resist like the males, that they'll not fall under pressure

How many men did Jesus himself inkoerson choose negating Judas who was chosen to fulfill prophecy of the betrayer ? There’s a particular number of men that happened too. Remember you’ve said you agree there are twelve apostles of the lamb ?

what im saying is Jesus is the lamb there are twelve apostles of Jesus Christ the lamb . Now look through your entire Bible and tell me how many men Jesus gave this commission to in person . That’s been my point the entire time brother . There are only twelve men that were chosen and appointed by Jesus himself to be apostles .

that’s been my point to you . Not that “ barnabus isn’t refered to as an apostle later but that barnabus was not chosen in the same way paup and the eleven were there are only twelve who were they are the apostles of the lamb there aren’t fifteen or nine there are twelve men verifiable in scriptire who were all chosen by him alone without mediation of any kind judt Jesus choosing and with his word giving them the commission . It’s factual I’m not sure why you keep going to barnabus you’ve shown that he was not chosen as Paul or the other eleven he never had Jesus appear to him and choose and appoint him as apostle neither did Matthias. That’s what makes them different along with all those other things I’ve shown you like they will sit in twelve thrones judging the tribes of Israel. That’s not for barnabus but is for Paul because again he’s the twelth person Jesus himself chose to be his apostle and again

Paul’s witness that Jesus chose himself became a big part of the New Testament that guy he chose to be his witness to the world along with the other eleven chosen apostles

They are different from anyone else look into how many people Jesus gave the commission to be his chosen witnesses to the world and you’ll find twelve names including Paul bit won’t find barnabus or natthias n that group that Jesus chose the exact same way appearing in person to them and speaking tbier choosing and commission to them

the twelve apostles are different from barnabus

“And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭22:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, ( not thirteen of fifteen or nine twelve ) and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭19:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

How many apostles are there of Jesus Christ the lamb brother ? You will again find those twelve name ms coinciding with the twelve men Jesus himself chose to be his annointed and appointed apostles to all the world .

Is what’s written in heaven wrong ?

brother do that search and see if you can find anyone other than the twelve apostles ( Paul included not Judas ) that received the same commission from Jesus the lamb personally as he appeared to them . Like Paul and the other eleven received there’s no one else there are twelve of them

All I’ve said about barnabus is that he was not chosen by Jesus himself like all the twelve apostles were again that’s factual . The twelve Jesus chose and commissioned are the twelve apostles of the lamb

twelve foundations, ( not thirteen of fifteen or nine twelve ) and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.”

can you name those twelve names ? If you look and see who Jesus himself called and appointed you’ll have all twelve that’s all I’m saying to ya

a church group praying and annointing someone an apostle isn’t the same as being an apostle of the lamb or a foundational name in the kingdom of heaven like the twelve men who lived out and established the New Testament by command of Jesus Christ . They were with him and they endured the same life worldly hate that he did they were killed because of thier faith in him and carrying out thier commission from him

theres a reason ot calls attention to twelve name of the apostles of the lamb those twelve men are different they are foundational the rest of us are like the house built upon that foundational witness we believe Jesus made them seperate clewrly and often he set them apart from the world this all includes Paul

None of us will ever have the witness they have or suffer the persecution they differed for the kingdom they’re different and set apart those twelve

You think being one of the twelve requires a personal encounter with the Lord.
I believe that to be one of the twelve you had to be a legal witness to Jesus’s baptism, ministry, death and resurrection, and ascension.

Paul acknowledges ”the 12”. Do you think people knew who “the twelve” were? Of course they did. They were those who first testified of Jesus’s baptism, ministry, death, and resurrection and ascension on the day of Pentecost. Those 12 included Matthias. Paul could not have stood with Peter testifying to the validity of what Peter was preaching, he was not a witness to any of it.

Just in the timing alone: there they were, at the beginning, laying the foundation. Now all apostles lay foundations as they are sent to establish the called out in the places they are sent. But the first work was at Pentecost.

The Holy Spirit obeys Christ alone. If the Spirit says “this one is an apostle - set him apart for the work” then the order came from Christ personally. Just because we don’t get to read how Silas and Timothy and James were set apart doesn't mean they are any less personally called. But the scriptures confirm they are apostles. Sure, not Apostles of the Lamb, not of the twelve, but apostles none the less.

There are only 12 Apostles of the Lamb. They are all now with the Lord. They include Matthias.
There are other apostles. We see at least 5 more in the scriptures. That grace continues today as it did in the early church. It will continue until the Body is brought to the maturity of Christ.

sorry don't understand your question. What does " to believe Father or not consciously. and then do love and mercy to all too, " mean?

Once saved by God and you the child see this from God in you, , I at least cannot harm others anymore, it is not in the new birth from Father given me, anyone else yet? That is te change from death to life, from first birth flesh to second birth God's Spirit and Truth

You know, why can't you reference the current discussion on CURRENT gifts? Prophets being the target in this case.

Again, I am not watching your videos. Feel free to educate yourself that way, but I have no inclination to do so.

I am somewhat taken aback that you have a photo of Edgar Cayce as your avatar.

I am curious as to why you would have Cayce as your avatar?

Edgar Cayce (/ˈkeɪsiː/; March 18, 1877 – January 3, 1945) was an American clairvoyant who reported and chronicled an ability to diagnose diseases and recommend treatments for ailments while asleep.[1] During thousands of transcribed sessions, Cayce would answer questions on a variety of subjects, such as healing, reincarnation, dreams, the afterlife, past lives, nutrition, Atlantis, and future events. Cayce described himself as a devout Christian and denied being a Spiritualist or communicating with spirits. Cayce is regarded as a founder of the New Age movement and a principal source of many of the movement's characteristic beliefs.[2]

As a clairvoyant, Cayce collaborated with a variety of individuals, including osteopath Al Layne, homeopath Wesley Ketchum, printer Arthur Lammers, and Wall Street broker Morton Blumenthal. In 1931, Cayce founded a non-profit organization, the Association for Research and Enlightenment.[3] In 1942, a popular and highly sympathetic biography of Cayce titled There is a River was published by journalist Thomas Sugrue.[4] wiki

This is not a prophet. This, is a person influenced by demonic spirits. I hope that he is not being presented as someone with a prophetic gift.

“And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21:14‬ ‭

“And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first,Simon , who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphæus, and Lebbæus, whose surname was Thaddæus; Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10:1-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send themforth to preach,”

‭‭Mark‬ ‭3:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

So far Jesus has named 12 apostles he’s personally chosen and annointed to preach the gospel . But for the math , Let’s look at some of what he said about Judas one of the twelve apostles pre cross

“Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. TheSon of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26:20-25‬ ‭

We can now see why Jesus said this about the 12 apostles

“Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.”

‭‭John‬ ‭6:70-71‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.”

‭‭John‬ ‭17:12‬ ‭

So we can now understand Judas an original member of the twelve apostles of Christ was removed and lost because he was Jesus betrayer part of gods plan for the cross eas that he had to be betrayed by one of his companions. Judas was ordained and foreknown to be the one to betray him it was always written . So now we’re back to eleven men Jesus chose and annointed and sent out to preach the gospel . Let’s look at after Judas was removed

“Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28:16-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Those eleven have tbier commision to be apostles of Christ Jesus

And so we have eleven apostles that Jesus personally chose and sent to be his witnesses and apostles to all the world ?

a then there’s the only other man n the Bible who Jesus comes to personally after his resurrection and gives his the same annointing and calling and appointment as the other eleven to be a witness of the gospel to all people israel and gentile .

That means this for Paul

“Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:1, 3‬ ‭

argue makes 12 again and each was personally in person chosen and called and appointed by Jesus risen up the eleven and then Paul

This isn’t the same as any of those twelve

“And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.”

‭‭Acts‬ ‭1:26‬ ‭

can you acknowledge that’s different from the twelve men Jesus actually appeared to in person eleven who were with him all the way from the beginning and gave them thier appointment and ordination as apostles ? Or Paul who again is the only person in the nt Jesus appeared to as he had the other eleven in person and commissioned him to be his witness to the world ?

Brother. Can I ask are you an apostle ? I’m not asking to argue and say you aren’t but I was just wondering if you are an apostle like barnabus ?

The idea of “personally chosen by Christ” does not hold water. Who else is giving gifts of the Spirit? If the Holy Spirit does only what Christ says then no one gifted with the apostolic grace received it on his own accord. This is true for all gifts. We may ask for the greater gifts but we cannot receive them unless the Lord gives them.

really ? There are twelve men he chose as apostles that same way

“And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21:14‬ ‭

yeah it’s probably only eleven that Jesus personally chose and then Matthias who was chosen before anyone received the holt spirit by casting lots

… yeah…. That holds more water than the idea that Jesus only chose twelve men personally and it’s written on heaven that he has twelve apostles

I’m not sure brother it holds a lot of water in my opinion . I mean it does say there are twelve names written as apostles and there are specifically twelve men Jesus personally made apostles

but maybe I guess eleven names got there because Jesus annointed and commissioned them and then the twelth name was because lord were cast and it happened to fall to natthias maybe he’s the different one and his name was written because Peter decided to cast lots

im gonna stick with the twelve apostles who witness the nt but it’s ok and doesn’t hurt or bug me brother if you don’t agree I’m alright with that can’t agree in everything ….

id say it holds water really well but that’s just a difference of opinion again

im gonna stick with the twelve apostles who witness the nt but it’s ok and doesn’t hurt or bug me brother if you don’t agree I’m alright with that can’t agree in everything ….

id say it holds water really well but that’s just a difference of opinion again

Paul acknowledged “the twelve” that did not include himself. Why don’t you?

Today, Christ personally choses to whom gifts are distributed. Like Paul, who received his gifts and calling when the Lord was in heaven. In fact, Jesus baptized no one in the Holy Spirit until He ascended.

5. They are not infallible. And often they go through great trials. God needs to refine the prophet and trials are one of the main means.

Do you mean they are not infallible in their lives as a human being, or they are not infallible if they are delivering a direct message from God [prophecy]?

Yes at that time the new testament was still being recorded but when the revelation is all recorded we will have the complete words of God 2 Timothy 316 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Remember what the signs were for Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

“The idea of “personally chosen by Christ” does not hold water. “

I love you brother and I know what you’re saying.

When Peter said this:
“21 Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22 beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.”

Do you see how Paul could not meet the requirement of a witness? This was not to bear witness to God. God knows what is true and what is not. This was to bear witness to men. And because of that, a witness had to actually see the event. Paul saw Christ in the spirit - After he ascended. Matthias witnessed Jesus in the upper room.

Furthermore, they were to be a witness to the Jews. The number 12 was significant to the Jews. Peter discerned this and knew that someone had to replace Judas who had been lost. The arrangement was then 12 men of age witnessing to the same event, the event being the baptism, ministry, death, resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus Christ.

As human beings. Those who hate correction usually try to find fault with the messenger. Since none of us are perfect, we will still make mistakes, not necessarily with what we say but in the attitude we have. We should speak the truth in love and humility.

Agreed!

At that time Paul wrote "12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part..."

Yet, we have the whole N.T but we still see through a glass darkly.

We are definitely not face to face with the canon.

There is another problem.

The Corinthian church received a hand written letter from the apostle Paul.

The Corinthians were given the N.T letter directly by Paul from Jesus.

I think that letter (1 Corinthians) is scripture and describes the gifts and ministries of the H.S.

I would avoid interpretations and tradition when reading the text.

The subject of apostles and prophets has come up again. I've replied to this generally. I see nowhere in the the NT that declares that there are no more apostles or prophets. As I said, if those two gifts have ceased, why do we still have evangelists, pastors and teachers? They are included as gifts from Lord Jesus.

What is more difficult is to define what the ministry of the prophet entails. What are the characteristics of a prophet? This might be a little long winded and controversial. Please bear with me.

People seem to focus on the prophet as one who foretells the future. While this may be part of the prophet's ministry, it is not the primary role. For example, my mentor for 30 years was a prophet in the NT sense. He did foretell the future. He foresaw the rise of Islam and its spread over the world. He saw this in the 1970's, years before Islam became the force it is today. But that is only a minor part of the ministry he had.

The purpose of the prophet is to receive revelation directly from God. This is not to add to God's word and it will never contradict God's word. Rather it is to explain God's word in ways that make it easier to understand. We all can enjoy this kind of revelation. But the prophet is one whose life is devoted to it.

For example, my prophet friend and mentor had a revelation from God about unforgiveness. He was saved just after his marriage broke up. He was a wealthy businessman and his ex took everything. He was not quiet about it. And he hated his ex wife with a passion.

His new church friends told him that he had to forgive, but he did not know how. So he sought the Lord and Lord Jesus showed him how. Many people have been greatly helped by that revelation.

How do you recognise a prophet? It's not easy, but these are characteristics.

1. They are not popular. They tend to speak the truth without anything to soften it. No "spoonful of sugar" for that medicine.
2. They have few friends. That's a consequence of being truthful and blunt.
3. They spend hours and hours with God.
4. They discern lies and hypocrisy instantly. Never tell a prophet, "I'm fine" if you are not. You can fool a lot of people, but not the true prophet.
5. They are not infallible. And often they go through great trials. God needs to refine the prophet and trials are one of the main means.

The prophet typically has no public ministry. You will rarely find him or her in the pulpit. Instead, they pour themselves into a few, often only one, who in turn makes it known to others. That individual is the teacher.

Whatever our ministry, and all who are born again have a gift, we need to discover it and walk in it. God decides who does what. Very often our calling is not what we would choose for ourselves. I very much wanted to be an evangelist, Australia's Billy Graham. The last thing I wanted was to be a pastor. I'm not ordained, but God has used me to help people who are in real trouble spiritually.

As an aside, the pastor should be a teacher and the teacher have a pastor's heart also. Teaching without compassion can put people under condemnation. Compassion without truth leaves people without the tools to overcome.

Num 11: 25-29 When the Spirit was put upon the seventy elders of Israel, the text states, " And as the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied. But they did not continue doing it". 1 Sam 10: 6-11 Samuel prophesied that when the Spirit of the Lord came upon Saul, he would "prophesy with them and be turned into another man". Joel 2: 28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, ..." 2 Peter 1: 21 For the prophecy came not at any time by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. What is the Holy Spirit of the Father? Isaiah 63: 9- 10 The Holy Spirit of the Father is the angel (because it can be sent) of His presence, and where the Holy Spirit is, the Father is. Our reality is in the mind of the Father. That is how He has all of those characteristics and powers. He has always existed and transcends time. He is the invisible God and interacts in our reality through His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the mind, heart, and power of the invisible God, the Father. It is He who chooses who gets baptized with His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit of the Father is a means for the Father to enter a being in order to communicate with, enlighten, speak through, change the motivation and heart of, and empower to perform His will. Our access to the Father is through the Son because when the Son ascended back to the Father to get glorified, He received from the Father a glorified spiritual body made up of the spirits of the souls that he baptizes with the Holy Spirit in order to enter their being. The Apostle John shows us that Jesus never did his own will. He never spoke from himself but only what he heard from God, what God wanted him to say. John 7: 16-18; 8: 26, 40; 12: 49-50; 14: 10, 24; 17: 8, 14. He was the prophet God raised up and put His words in his mouth. Deut 18: 18; Acts 3: 22. The same thing pertains to the works he did in his Father's name. John 5: 19-20, 36; 9: 3-4; 10: 32, 37-38; 14: 10; Acts 2: 22. In this way, the Father spoke His words and did His works through Jesus. That is why Jesus was a prophet when on earth as a human.
