Actually, 1Jn 1:9 uses a legal term; to name, state, or confess, nothing more is required. If one want’s to shed tears or wear sackcloth, that is optional. Our admission of our sins is the prerequisite. This verse is about restoring fellowship, not salvation.

We are saved from sin Mat 1:21, not in sin.
Heb 10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Which is why Jesus taught when He forgives to go and sin no more (change of direction) John 8:11
Why would someone want to live in the state of sin if we love Him. John 14:15 Sin leads us down the wrong path.
Romans 6:16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
There is no scripture that says we are saved in our sins. Not everyone who says Lord Lord will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. Mat 7:21-23 Jesus gives us the blueprint for salvation and it requires our cooperation, but as I stated before many want one way love and no relationship can survive that- Jesus said If we love Him- keep His commandments.
I hope your including the entire law in your definition of sin. If you are only defining sin as transgression of the 10 commandments, then you would be deeply mistaken.
Sorcery, kidnapping, abuse of widows and orphans, sexual immorality, drunkards, e.t.c.
Are all included in both the law and the deeds of the flesh.

You need to clarify what you are saying.

Which one do you mean?
1) Sinless perfection
2) Trying to sin less but failing
3) An open confession that the flesh is too strong, Lord help me
Which type of sin do you mean because there are so many types of sin.
When it comes to law and sin.. It is about doing what is right or not doing what you know is wrong.
The LAW is given to help us understand right and wrong. A standard of righteousness.
Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
The law does not say " thou shalt not lust"
BUT Paul said lusting is breaking the law thou shalt not covet.
As I have explained many times the moral is is based on God's Love.
Love God and Love your neighbour
These 2 laws can be given in more detail ... the 10 commandments

The 10 commandments can be kept outwardly and you can seem to obey them but they are deeper and incorporate more too.

Good post. Many people don't fully understand the magnitude of God's perfect law the Ten Commandments. It encompasses much more than what is stated and as you indicated Jesus gave examples of this from the Ten Commandments and how He relates anger with murder. Jesus wants us changed right where sin starts in the heart and if we remove anger and contempt from our hearts, thou shalt not murder would automatically be kept. If we remove lust from our hearts, thou shalt not commit adultery would automatically be kept. How many other fruits of the Spirit would be kept just changing these two things and this is only 2 of the Ten Commandments. Each commandment has a Spiritual meaning and if changed in the heart, the letter would automatically be kept. Breaking the letter is a way to test ourselves to see if we are in the faith and shows us our sin so we know our condition and our need for Jesus to help us change from the inside out so we can be prepared for His heavenly Kingdom. Today if we hear His voice will we be in rebellion to Him Heb 3:7-8 or allow Him in to change us so we can walk in Him in obedience. John 14:15-18 Which brings harmony peace and righteousness Isa 48:18
Our salvation is from sin, we are not saved in sin

We are delivered from the penalty of our sin. We are increasingly being delivered from the power of sin. And one day we will be delivered from the presence of sin.
I believe the scripture tells us we shouldn't sin. That comes from a place of darkness 1 John 3:8 but through Jesus who can change us from the inside out and where sin begins - through our thoughts and feelings and gives us His Spirit when we submit to Him through faith and love who helps us overcome sin and keep His commandments John 14:15-18.
If we slip and fall along the way we have an Advocate with Jesus who is our High Priest in the NC where we can go directly to Him when we sin and have a sorry heart 1 John 1:9 He wants nothing more than to forgive and give us grace and sanctification. Regardless how many times a righteous man falls, he will always get back up. Through Jesus we can gain victory over sin- the law just keeps us in check so when know what sin is Romans 7:7 Romans 3:20 and living to His standard of righteousness. Psa 119:172 Isa 48:13 Romans 6:16 Through Jesus He can save us from the bondage of sin and be reconciled Rev 22:14 Our God is stronger than the devil to keep us from sin, than the devil is to keep us in sin- we just need to have faith and live by His every Word. I always pray for more love and faith to Him and pray for obedience to Him and to show me any sin I am not aware of- He will. If we slip, its best to get on our knees right away- and once we ask for forgiveness, we need to forgive ourselves too and have faith on His promise that He will cleanse us from all sin and unrighteousness and .
It requires us to repent- which means one has a change of heart and a change of direction. Jesus is willing to forgive us and through His power we can overcome sin. Scripture says there is a people who does Rev 14:12
The Holy Spirit who convicts us of sin John 16:8 if we have not hardened our hearts so much that we no longer hear His voice callings us out of rebellion. Heb 3:7-8 living comfortable in sin, its not a good place to be. Heb 10:26
John 16:8 says nothing about anyone hardening their hearts. 2 Corinthians 7:10 says a Godly sorrow works repentance in us.
Why do you always introduce the response of man over the work of God? And why do you introduce straw arguments? How do you jump from repentance to being comfortable with sin? The 2 are in opposition.
Does repentance begin with God or the individual?
You must not have read all of the scriptures I posted. It answers these questions.
I certainly see that you place great emphasis on what men do and less on what God does.
It's a simple this or that question. Does repentance begin with God or men?
