A 9mm is a very nice caliber. Some might call it a little small, but for a lady it is about perfect. Still fairly easy to conceal on smaller body sizes or with fitted clothing, but packing a good punch too. Has your wife shot a double-trigger before? Maybe she's ok with it but when I tried one I HATED it. I would counsel anyone looking into it to try it if possible first so they know if it is something they can get used to. Ruger is a great brand, in my limited experience!

If you look at the ballistic test between 9mm, 45 acp, and everything in between..... not much difference.

Well...cool! Now, why didn't I have that information three weeks ago when I was getting so much flack for my preference of the 9mm? lol

She will get a chance to shoot it before she decides to buy it. Her friend who works at Bass Pro Shops has one.
 
Without a CCW Permit, I would be limited to conceal and carry in Missouri, but with a CCW Permit...

That's if we're talking modern defensive loads. .45 is king if you're down to cheap Wal-Mart ammo or somehow transported to the 1940's.

9mm is great because it's smaller, lighter, more common, easier to shoot, and similar enough to the alternatives in terms of terminal ballistics that you're sacrificing negligible performance advantages for all those other benefits. And more!

Big time bonus:9mm is currently the cheapest. That means more practice time. More skillz.

I didn't realize how much of a draw that was until President Obama was in office and ammo prices skyrocketed. It makes a HUGE difference. I will actually shoot better knowing ammo was cheap than if I'm stressing out over adding up exactly how much money I'm blowing every time I take a shot XD.

It looks like I may end up with another PT111 G2. I found out that Taurus has done a recall of many of the "Millennium" series, including the 24/7 pistols. This is because of a safety issue. If the trigger is pulled back slightly, then the safety engaged, the trigger is prevented from going back forward... which allows you to pull the trigger and fire the pistol with the safety engaged.

I have a few more days left to put in for factory evaluation, which I have read, means that I send them my pistol, and they "cannot" fix it, so they send me a PT111 as a replacement.

I don't mind the 24/7 having that problem, because I know how to handle a pistol safely. But.... if I ever had to use that pistol for self defense, I would likely be held criminally liable because I used a pistol that I knew was "unsafe".

I don't want to run that risk.

So, I will be giving up a really nice .45 ACP pistol that cost me around $300 (IIRC) and getting a really nice 9mm that sells for around $250 or less.

As Bruce Willis used to say .... "kay sarah, sarah."

With our love affair with guns you and Mexico can have all of the anti gun people. LOL
The issue is that to avoid kids getting their hands on loaded guns, locking them up and training kids about gun safety and demonstrating their danger by shooting a watermelon is needed. The more everyone knows gun safety and the danger they are the safer everyone will be.

Don't feel too bad. 9 mm and it's sister 40 caliber are what almost all police in the world use.

Yes, gun safety and common sense are critical for gun owners! I'll never forget reading about a 29-year-old mother who was accidentally shot and killed by her 2-year-old son inside a Walmart in Idaho. She was shopping with three children in the electronics section when the 2-year-old apparently reached into her purse that was still in the shopping cart and pulled out a handgun. At nearly point-blank range, the trigger was pulled by the boy and the mother was struck with the bullet and died at the scene. :(

Just recently in a city not far from where I live, a victim and his 6 year old brother were playing with a firearm at their home and the victim received minor injuries in what they described as an accidental shooting. Thank God for only minor injuries in this case! Guess who will be in trouble with the police? Not the child, but the GUN ONWER!
