I really enjoyed my navy 36, cap and ball revolver. I wish I had not traded it. Now I have a 44 cap and ball revolver, and a 54 trapper pistol. They are fun to shoot. But that 36 was one sweet shooter. You could clear a holster with that thing like lightening, and round ball flattens out to about a 1" diameter and it never over penetrates. No danger of it exiting out the back side. That's it, it expends it's energy IN the target, the energy left when a rounds punches through the animal is wasted.
In Sixguns by Elmer Keith he spoke of growing up knowing Civil War veterans, one from each side, both in cavalry, who spoke of the 36 caliber round ball as the round "that would take the fight out of the man". As the union army NEVER had a contract for cartridges with a round ball, only conical, they must have cast their own or someway come up with them, perhaps loaded the first 6 with round ball and perhaps used the Gov. issued conical containing paper cartridges for reloads while fighting.
In my own experience a friend took up muzzle loader deer hunting, the first year he had a 45, his first deer was hit in the rib cage, nicked a rib, when to got to the other side it bounced back on the hide and rolled around inside, expending all it's energy, it dropped and stayed pretty much down as it died.

That's the fun stuff. My son loves to fish all because he caught little sunfish when he was a little guy.they must have carried them low on the hip, or maybe a cross draw.
I recall my grandson firing the 50 call single shot as I held it and told him" pull the trigger", he had his eye and ear protection on of course, before I could draw a breath he went "let's do it again!" a lot like the first little sun fish they catch, you have them full of fun and confidence for life.
That's pretty nice. Would love to have one, money is an issue right now. Plus they appear to be out of stock. I also like that brass cap tin. I'm gonna have to order me one. I have been using remington caps because it's what can be bought in sporting good shops. They are the prettier ones aren't they! And the balance and geometry are suprior, you can hold it out at arms length and cock the hammer more easily, the Reminton requie=res myself and many to bend the elbow more, and unless it is a shorter barrel , they tend to be nose heavy, 36 more than 44 as the hole in the tube is smaller in 36.

This one is a little dandy, the balance is awesome, you can change cylinders in a snap.

Better off trying to buy goldGot any gun shows in your area? Might pick one up very reasonably.
Cool, I am very tidy with my pistols, and have never had a chain fire. There was another picture I saw that showed the flash of the charge going off, hope I can find it. It was very profound and showed how chain fire can happen from percussion caps not seated and sealed fully.
