Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. Lev 19:28 (KJV)

I think that says it ALL.

no its not against god to get a tattoo.
its a little off wat this fourm was for but my friends mom has a shirt that says 'God loves me and my tattoos' ...i dont know if its just me or not but i think its really coo coz she has like a ton of tattoos :)

Personally I think tats are trashy. I won't even date a girl with a tat its trash. I would never waste money on a tat. Thats just me though

Leviticus 19:28
I would love to get a tattoo. I wanted a cross with Boxing gloves hanging over the sides kinda like a "fighting for Christ" theme. but I dont like needles so i'm not that bummed about it anyway.

but an anonymous user on yahoo said:
If you are truly born again the Holy Spirit of God dwells within you (John 14:17, Romans 8:9, 11) and your body is the temple of God. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 makes this very clear.

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17

16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

not trying to condemn anyone who has tattoos though. its a personal thing. ask God whats right for you.

That is the problem when quoting obscure verses without reading them in context of the entire chapter.

"In this passage God is speaking to his covenant people Israel. He is specifically telling them to stay far from the religious practices of the surrounding people groups. The prohibited religious practices in these verses include eating bloody meat, fortune telling, certain hair cuts related to the priests of false cults, cutting or marking the body for dead relatives, cultic prostitution and consulting psychics. All these practices would lead God's beloved people away from Him and toward false gods that were not Gods at all. In the midst of this context we find the word translated “tattoo marks” in verse 28. It is important to note here that the context of this passage is not one of body décor but one of marking one's self in connection with cultic religious worship. Bible commentaries tell us much about the eastern religious practices that God was warning His people to shun."

THANK YOU! People take things way out of context, cause they don't read everything. I have 3 tat's myself, and they're actually very nice, and not trashy or anything else. To say they are, as some have said, that's pretty much calling someone with tat's trash, and saying they're worth less which isn't so. Mine are the following...one is a dolphin I always loved them, and it's also in memory of my aunt, one is a shamrock, symbolic for the Trinity, the leaves are green with yellow-goldish tips, and heart shaped inside, and it says "Trinity" above it, and the other just says "Never Forsaken" in black and red. The red is like Jesus' blood that was shed for us, and the black is for how we're 'dead to sin'. Also, I want to note this, our physical body won't be in heaven anyways, as we'll have a body like Christ and the angels, so yeah, and also, no one but God can judge us. I'm proud of my tat's, I don't regret them at all, and I know many won't believe me on this, but I could care less, I felt that God told me what to get done. They can love me less all they want, cause I have the love of God and no love is better than that!

Please don't look at my post and so I am misunderstanding. I know some great people with tattoos. All I said was I think they look trashy. I wasn't trying to say people with tats are trash just bc that. No all I was saying is I think they look trashy. I dont care where they are I dont care what they say. I just think they are trash and destruction of a wonderful body the Lord Almighty made in his image why damage it? but please don't take anything offensive of what i say.

I used to think tattoos were wrong til i read this forum. Im going to get about 8 tattoos this weekend and all my kids are gonna get them when they are born.

They aren't trash or trashy at all to most, however, I respect your view. Our view is different though, and should be respected as well. Also, we're not damaging our body, we're beautifying them for God, it tells of our life, our testimony, and our most awesome God. That's all I'll say, I'm not offended either, I was just saying. Nor was I refering to just you, many have said it, just they don't say it on here, they don't have the nerve it seems, but they say it in the chat room ^_^...anyhow, peace, and God bless.
