I don't think it's Biblical, and I don't think it's true.

I have been given many things in my life that I could not handle. I can think of many things that could happen in the future that I know I would not be able to handle. At all.

If I could handle everything, why would I need to run to God? Why would I need to give Him any of that burden if He's only giving me what I can carry on my own?

****I like to remind people to pray in tongues 30 minutes a day----it can make a big difference in your life----the Spirit knows everything and intercedes for us----it got me off drugs 40 years ago...

But still, that is something I never thought I would ever say, lol.

I wasn't really referring to temptation in my original post. There is always a way out of temptation.

I meant more along the lines of "what life hands you." We can't handle everything it gives us. God is with us through it all, but I have been through and know several people who had things happen that was beyond being "reasonably handleable" (probably not a real word but oh well).

It just grinds my gears to hear people say that phrase, because it implies these things happen because God knew "they could take it", as if the bad things that happen to them are within their personal spectrum of tolerance.

Just my two cents, and wanted to clarify. It's been years since I first wrote that, but I still believe it ;)
 
So last night right as I went to turn on the shower my sweet little doxie jumped in the bathtub. She landed in the bathtub at the exact moment the shower turned on. She was soaked. She couldn't get out because she's very little and her paws were wet. So, I decided to just give her a bath. SUPRISE - bath time.
 
Wish that worked for my australian shepherd. He would run at the first sign of falling water.

I like to ponder deep philosophical questions. It surprises me that not many people I encounter do the same. When I hear a statement from them of "I've never considered that", it bothers me. It bothers me because I think those people are not giving their own lives enough consideration, and it bothers me because I think they don't consider the deep questions because they are afraid of having to face the possibility that everything they know is wrong and that they have spent the bulk of their lives doing the wrong things.

I invite you to read two recent posts of mine (62619 & 62621 - Speak Your Mind thread on BDF forum.) that deal with this question. They give an alternative view to yours. Perhaps it will be helpful to see how some people can have such a belief.

Its not a questions though. Like she said, it comes from

We are to take those trying moments and rely upon Him for strength. Like Rachael said, if we could do it on our own, why would need Him? So, to say that God will never give you more than you can handle is fantastically wrong and un-biblical. [/FONT]
 
Its like this verse:

[h=1]Jeremiah 29:11English Standard Version (ESV)[/h]11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

This is another verse that is commonly blasted out of context. Read the whole book. This is not a promise to all believers. This was to those enslaved in Persia. This was for the Jewish people. Not everyone. So when people read this they get upset when their loved one gets cancer or something tragic happens. Because when God doesnt deliver on this, they get upset and start to doubt. People need to stop taking scripture out of context to make themselves feel better. Because when you use a verse like this one to give someone hope, you are lieing to them.

I understand where you are coming from as for years I felt that way, but when my moms health started to decline and I needed to be there to care for her due to the fact she couldnt be by herself. I literally was so overwhelmed because I couldn't be like normal 18 year olds experiencing those things, but for one reason or another I stuck with it and within two years my grandparents needed help too. I literally thought I was stretched to the max, but I was responsible for two households, cooking, cleaning, taking care of them including running them to appointments and what not. I took all of this on at twenty, not knowing how I was going to do it. I did this for an additional four years and my moms health started to get better so I decided to look into going to school and two weeks before I was to start my grandpa passed away and my moms health declined yet again and here I was starting school. Lets just say I didnt know how I did it, but know God gave me strength to do it. Looking back at all of it, I can see how God knew I could handle it, but at the time I didnt think that was humanly possible and wouldnt regret any bit of it

Just a part of my testimony if thats okay :)
 
Blogging is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I mean, compared to other work (like the work my husband is doing), it's pretty easy. I guess I just haven't figured out the right balance of time or something. It's a slow process, while trying to get used to having 3 kids instead of 2.
A couple of amazing things that have happened this year so far, is that we have our address set up! We're getting power to my house next week or so, and propane will follow soon after. We're getting doors this weekend. Hopefully, within the next month, I'll FINALLY be living in my own house!
My husband has started training to be an EMT, which has been a big deal for him, I'm glad he gets the opportunity to use the talents that God gave him, for helping other people. But I've been functioning as a mostly single mom since he started.
 
Lots of words that were told to me echoing in my head (not good ones). Sometimes I wish I could just shut my mind off for a bit.

I find that its like a bell that won't stop ringing. A popular radio psychologist said that you should just say to yourself, "STOP!" Even if you just say it in your mind. I found that it works for me, but I usually have to do it again later if the thoughts creep back.
