Seriously, i leave this thread for about 2 hours? and I am reading through, and I am laughing so hard... I turn red and cant breathe... Can you imagine all of us on a Skype call and saying all this stuff and the fun and laughter to be had? Omg!!!

We need to make that a REALITY!!! lol

maybe it's better put this way...it's a sort of electrical generator.
it converts mechanical energy to electrical energy.
that's why, if the alternator is bad, the battery won't recharge and it'll die.
at least...i think that's right? :)

Yeah, that's as close as we need to get to know the purpose of an alternator. (In years past, the part of the car that did the same thing, more or less, was actually called a "generator.")
The "generator" of yesteryear was a DC ( "Direct Current" ) generator. The "alternator" of today is a three-phase AC ( "Alternating Current" ) generator - the output of which is then converted to DC ( not pure DC, but "close enough" ) - and voltage-regulated.
