Should a Christian celebrate christmas or easter?

Personally, we've always had some type of celebration with Christmas and Easter. Christmas was more traditional in the sense of materialistic and listening to the Christmas music while setting up the Christmas tree. There were mentions of Christ being the center of Christmas, but that wasn't our main focus on the holiday. Similar can be said for Easter. We looked forward to dying eggs and receive the chocolates on Easter morning. Then later on when seeing what it was about Christ's Crucifixion, it brought some attention. This year when it passed, it was focused more on Christ since I'm obviously too old to color dye eggs. Prior to that with Christmas was similar, I didn't have as much hype over it. Probably also because I worked in retail and saw how needy and selfish little kids got at the toys section and just the hype with Christmas stuff.

I did look into the main roots of both holidays as well and how things got altered by the Roman Catholic Church to fully declare such holidays as official religious ones (which also ties in with the dates originating from Pagan celebrations/rituals). It started to grow as to what the point really would be if it's not a directly instructed rite to do so and I don't know or think I'll want to celebrate it in similar senses if and when it'll be left up to me. I'm still going to be seeing Christmas decorations since my mother likes putting them up and for the past year or two I was sluggish on doing them. I still like some Christmas songs as long as it's not overly played, so I'd probably look forward to that still. Heck, I still listen to them sometimes.

Also if it's not known by now...these type of topics stir debates on both ends no matter what. Even if it's not close to Easter or Christmas, it's still going to catch attention. Good luck surviving it.

Sure we do. Personally, I don't mix anything "SPIRITUAL" with em. Christmas is a powerful economic blow - out that helps the national economy every year (that's what "Black Friday" is all about, after all. And the food ain't bad either.

"Easter" is a good holiday time also. AT LEAST Jesus' Name is mentioned openly, and that's always a good thing.

People/Societies always enjoy a good celebration (you ought to have seen the Brouhaha in Dallas about the Rangers winning the "World series", which of course means absolutely NOTHING (except for bucket loads of CA$H in the coffers of the owners).

December 25th used to be the day on which the sun god was worshiped in the Roman empire. It was not the date of birth of Christ.

Fact #1
The Bible never mentions the word "easter", neither does it ask us to celebrate something on the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring.

Fact #2
The word "easter" in Acts 12:4 is transliterated from the Greek word for Pasha. The word "easter" is derived from "eostre/eastre" of the Babylonian pagans.

Fact #3
If we should be celebrating a specific feast, God would have definitely put it in His Word to make sure. After all, all the feasts the Jews celebrate each year are found in the Bible. They are: 1. Passover, 2. Unleavened bread, 3. Firstfruits, 4. Pentecost, 5. Feast of trumpets, 6. Day of atonement, 7. Feast of tabernacles.

Yet, we can't find a verse that states:
"Behold! The Lord thy God hath made thee an appointed time to remember the lamb which was slain for mankind; it shall be at the twelfth month and on the twenty fifth day of the month that ye shall have a feast and on it ye shall eat, and ye shall drink, and ye shall take a tree for thy house and shall put it there as an ornament. This hath the Lord of hosts spoken, and ye shall do it as I am the Lord thy God."


Both christmas as well as easter have no origin in the Bible, neither did the first apostles celebrate these feasts.
Do you celebrate them and what are your thoughts on it?

No hate comments please! Show me where I have stated something that is a lie. Show me where it says in the Bible we should celebrate christmas or easter the way many Christians do.

Christmas: I go to church and remember it's Jesus Christ's birth, but that's it. We should be following the Jewish feasts as Christians.
Easter: extrememly pagan....I do celebrate Jesus Rising from the dead, but nothing with Easter bunnies or anything like that.

Thank you for bringing it up, people really need to do some study on these subjects.

They can be good times for Evangelism, some un-churched people are more likely to attend a church event at Christmas, or even Easter.

At church we have a Christmas lunch/ party primarily but not exclusively for pensioners and disabled folks in December. Often several un-churched folks come along, join in the meal and listen to the gospel presentation. 'It's Christmas', anti-Christian barriers seems to be temporarily lowered in the season of goodwill.

The Gospel of Luke gives a date for when Zechariah was in the Temple, (Luke 1:5), using this date it can be worked out that the birth of Jesus coincides with the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles in September, not the 25th December. But as the 25th December seems to be here to stay why not use it to share the gospel with some?

Easter: extrememly pagan....I do celebrate Jesus Rising from the dead, but nothing with Easter bunnies or anything like that.

In my mind and life, it is the celebration of Jesus come to earth to teach us His way, to deliver us from the bondage of sin, and then rising back to Heaven to prepare a place for us there.

Who Was Really Born On December 25?
When Nimrod, the founder of Babylon, died, Semiramis told the people that her husband's spirit had taken possession of the sun. She encouraged the people to pay homage to her husband by worshipping the sun. Thus began the evil practice of sun worship. Later on when Semiramis gave birth to a son by the name of Tammuz, she hid her licentious form of living by lying to the people. Semiramis also declared that her son, Tammuz, was in actuality the return or rebirth of her husband, Nimrod. Hence through this teaching the doctrine of reincarnation was born. And since Tammuz was born on December 25, this day was highly honored and recognized by Nimrod's supporters. Note, therefore, that this date (December 25) was observed in honor of the birth of Tammuz long before Christianity existed, and that it was not until many centuries later this pagan custom was "Christianized" as being the birthday of Christ (or Christmas day).

And we should be content with that. The Christmas season is an excellent time to present the Gospel, and the reason why the Savior was sent into the world.

I am content to keep this ⤵️ feast, every Lord’s day (Sunday) with the saints, God’s redeemed, delivered, set free, people.

1 Corinthians 11:24-25 KJV

There is a vast difference between discussing an issue whereby some may become upset, and raising an issue with the sole purpose of upsetting people.

Intentionally creating conflict for the sheer enjoyment of conflict: I believe that's the definition of trolling... and it's certainly contrary to scripture.

If you want conflict, go to a bar and start a fight with someone who can punch you.

The issue isn't that people aren't studied up on the subject. There averages 2-3 anti-Christmas threads, and at least one anti-Easter thread every year. And I've been here since 2011.
I personally object to this "Pagan roots" complaint with the fact that you are surrounded daily, and use daily, things with Pagan origins, yet do so without complaint. I've yet to meet anyone that is equally as verbally outspoken and vehemently driven to purge Other Pagan based things out of their life, or the lives of others.
And every year I post this point and have yet to see anyone of them acknowledge it or accept that it's a double standard.

Correct. Take the names of the days of the week for example. Each name is connected with a pagan god, yet no one complains. Christmas became a Christian festival on December 25 (incorrectly) a long time ago. But the present reality is that this is one season when the true meaning of Christmas can be presented. What people do with that is up to them. "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners" is what all need to hear.
