To be honest, I'm not really keen on anything but secular Metal. I guess it's a lyrical thing, you know?

I kinda understand.
Lyrics was part of the reason I stopped listening to secular music.

It's not cause I Don't love God. I do I really do. But I can worship in other ways. It doesn't have to be music you know?

Just been reading through the posts. Not one mention of Extol? or even Narnia? or any of the awesome christian Doom metal bands out there?

Right, what does everyone think on secular metal?

Extol is band nr 9 on my Last.fm and will soon be number 7
been listening to a bit of Narnia too

If you like those two. I think there was a christian thrash band called deliverence which wrote the awesome song "flesh and blood"

Try out demon hunter too. But i'm not really into them xD

:)
I have a few songs by DH. Haven't heard Deliverance yet, I'll check them out later :)

that's what i was posting about....evanescence is a band that was Christian until they saw the gleam of the money, and then they actually denied their Christian roots and requested their CDs be pulled from Christian retailers....that was the post i was originally responding to....ben moody actually wanted the band to remain at least spiritual, if not Christian, and amy lee refused, and she got the rest of the band behind her....

I thought the Christian members departed from the band?

Or am I wrong?

evanescence. And what are they doing in a metal thread? there not Metal?

I've been hanging out at metal storm too long. Sorry! lol

Have you tried............

Will have to check when I get back up north, my parents really don't like metal :p

Yeah, mine have to live with it. There understanding it much more now. lol

hehe, mine seem to think that you can't praise Gd while screaming :p

Yeah I know it doesnt.
I just find it easier through worship in songs... Not contemporary though..

I know this sounds harsh, but most Christian music is sub par. It's all a bunch of forty somethings that were Christians when they were our age, and there wasn't any Christian music in the style that they liked, so now they make that kind of music, which appeals to a few forty somethings. OR, it's some one my age that doesn't know how to make their own sound, so they just copy whatever they think is popular at the time. There are some good Christian songs, but most of them are, like I said, sub par. And you feel guilty for not liking them as much as a talented secular artist. Also, it is important to note that some times the best praise songs are performed by secular artists. My Sweet Lord by George Harrison is a fine example. Harrison did not intend it as a Christian song, but it can still be used as such. Matisyahu, far from secular, but still not Christian, has written some amazing praise songs. Songs that have brought me to tears when I sing along and worship.
