Some from America's first president...

Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.

It is impossible to govern the world without God. It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits and humbly implore his protection and favor.

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. Experience has taught us that it is much easier to prevent an enemy from posting themselves than it is to dislodge them after they have got possession, and when the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.

Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself.

I guess our best was to crucify the One who gave His best?

Believe in your self?
Completely anti-scriptural and thus a lie from the pit.

I don't know. I think a healthy self-confidence is good. I think it's when we displace our hope and need for God with that that we run into problems.

"Good grief"
- Charlie Brown

(personally, I've always questioned this one; I mean how is grief good?)

Not really. Bible does say to be strong and courageous.

Don't even get me started on all Paul's exhortations to Timothy.

When I asked my mother about this one, she said "Maybe (my stepmother, the guy Dad married after Mom divorced him) just died."

Be strong in the Lord, not in self.

Philippians 2:5-8 (KJV) Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Right. There will no doubt a sense of well-being will accompany this but that is produced by God as He gives peace to those who trust Him and joy to those who truly spend time in His presence. But what confidence can a branch have that is not attached to a vine. Our boast is in Christ.
