Psalm139-14~ I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Marvelous are Your works, and I know this very well.
Since you brought to light faith healers like Ken Copeland I must add in a comment or two. Ken and Gloria Copeland hardly ever go to the Drs anymore. Joel Osteen's mother, Dodie, was diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer with a tumor the size of an orange and 2 the size of almonds. In 1981 December the Dr told John Osteen her husband that she had a few weeks to live. He looked at the Dr and said 'Dr we believe in miracles' kinda like when Joshua and Caleb said 'yes we can take the giants'. The Osteens went home and prayed and she would quote Scriptures every day. She is alive today at 91yo.I love the Psalms! Back in about 2002. I was extremely depressed, I was in agonizing pain, because my RA meds weren't strong enough. Two Word Faith friends told me my not being healed was because I lacked faith. I had great faith, but according to their teachers, Kenneth Copeland, etc, my problem was not enough faith. The woman friend got breast cancer a few years later. She had her breast cut off, but refused chemo & radiation, because God had "already healed" her. She died a year later, when the cancer metastasized into her brain, going insane before she died. The man friend ended up almost dying of an enlarged prostate. A friend found him unconscious on the floor, rushed him to the hospital where he was operated on, and he is alive and doing well at age 93.
So much for having faith to be healed. I do believe God heals, when that is his will.
Back to my depressed days, I turned my back on God, the church prayer and Bible studies, etc. God never left me in the 2 years I went through that. But finally, God started nudging me to read the Psalms daily. Five Psalms a day, to be exact. I had heard Billy Graham read 5 Psalms a day. And I did. 5 a day, gets you through 150 Psalms in a 30 day month. I continued to do that for 2 years, or 24 times straight through the book of Psalms.
Between my husband and his "If you aren't perfect, you are not a Christian," & my friends discouragement, I had developed a very bitter attitude towards Christian's. I knew I would never be sinless in this life, or perfect enough for God. (I thought that is why God planned to send Jesus?) But the Psalms introduced me to God's people. They weren't perfect, arrogant heroes of gigantic faith. In fact, they struggled, had trials and temptations. They went astray, but then returned to God to repent!! They were weak, unfocused - just normal people. No super heroes. They got mad at God, but then, they would see God's hand in their lives, and they would start rejoicing & praising God. There are many imprecatory Psalms- but only 1- Psalm 88 above, never resolved itself. But the other 149 Psalms, always resolved to praise God & thank him. My twisted idea about what a Christian is, was gone!! So much, that I started reading the Bible straight through again, found a good church, and began praying again. About a year after that, God called me to seminary. Not to become a pastor, but to understand the Bible, learn skills for ministry, original languages and do much more. I did work as a chaplain but had to quit when my RA meds failed, and I didn't have my RA under control.
At any rate,, I would urge everyone to read 5 Psalms a day for set time. It was one of the most beneficial things I have done in my 42 years of serving Christ. Here's some songs based on the Psalms!
