A very controversial Pope.

The Good
He recognized The Reformation and encouraged Catholics to know Scripture as well as Protestants. This thawed connections with Catholics I personally witnessed, that those are Catholic Mission rather that hissing when I said I was Protestant welcomed me with a smile and wanted to hear from the Scriptures. Though I do have concerns it was part of a closet Counter Reformation to expose Protestants to Roman Catholic Dogmas as well.

The Bad
When he was made Pontiff he preached Atheists will even be saved just because Jesus died, rather than faith in Jesus saving (John 3:16, John 6:40, Romans 10:9-10) and that salvation is in no one else but Jesus Christ (Acts 4:10-12) and the only Way to the Father is through Jesus (John 14:6).

The Ugly
He did not address the sexual scandals satisfactorily. He should have handed over the guilty abusers to secular authorities, defrocking them and allowing them to have full might of justice come upon them, rather than shielding them in Ecclesiastical circles.
"Jesus said, It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble." (Luke 17:2)

Easter was on Sunday, April 20, the pope died on Monday, April 21. Wasn't really struck dead but rather died on natural causes.
Shhhhh! We don't do facts here.

I'm just hanging around to see who in the other thread wins the bet. They're already talking Antichrist here in this thread, so as soon as the Vatican gets the announcement out we'll see some real fireworks.

Joe, a guy at my job, gave it a whole HOUR from the Vatican's announcement to the announcement of the new pope being the Antichrist. I said that's pretty long, but it's his bet so I shrugged and put him down for an hour.

This whole thread reminds me of some people here in the USA who closely follow and hotly debate what the British royal family does.

WHO CARES?! That's not even our gossip! Shouldn't we leave this one for the Catholics to argue about?

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch two teams in states I've never been to play a football game and form some very strong opinions about who should have won and who should have played what position in a different manner.

Thank you, superstitious Christians is not a good look to the rest of the world.

They seem to forget God's wrath was poured out on His Son at the Cross.

Yes, that confused many of my students in Earth science as well. His time of death was 7:35 am on April 21, however, it took another 5 1/2 hours before the rest of the Earth was in April 21. So for about 20% of the Earth it was still April 20th. Therefore you are 80% right in saying it wasn't Resurrection day and those who say it was are also right.
