A very controversial Pope.
The Good
He recognized The Reformation and encouraged Catholics to know Scripture as well as Protestants. This thawed connections with Catholics I personally witnessed, that those are Catholic Mission rather that hissing when I said I was Protestant welcomed me with a smile and wanted to hear from the Scriptures. Though I do have concerns it was part of a closet Counter Reformation to expose Protestants to Roman Catholic Dogmas as well.
The Bad
When he was made Pontiff he preached Atheists will even be saved just because Jesus died, rather than faith in Jesus saving (John 3:16, John 6:40, Romans 10:9-10) and that salvation is in no one else but Jesus Christ (Acts 4:10-12) and the only Way to the Father is through Jesus (John 14:6).
The Ugly
He did not address the sexual scandals satisfactorily. He should have handed over the guilty abusers to secular authorities, defrocking them and allowing them to have full might of justice come upon them, rather than shielding them in Ecclesiastical circles.
"Jesus said, It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble." (Luke 17:2)
