IMO, Jesus did not say what the KJV translates the Greek as,
Jhn 10:18
No man takes it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
10:18 οὐδεὶς (No one)
αἴρει (is taking, present active indicative) αὐτὴν (it, ψυχήν psuchE from v. 17)) ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ (away from me) ἀλλ᾽ (but) ἐγὼ (I) τίθημι (am placing/laying, present active indicative) αὐτὴν (it) ἀπ᾽ ἐμαυτοῦ (away from myself). ἐξουσίαν (authority) ἔχω (I am having) θεῖναι (to start laying down, 2nd aorist active infinitive) αὐτήν (it) καὶ ἐξουσίαν (and authority) ἔχω (I am having, present active indicative) πάλιν (again)
λαβεῖν (2nd aorist active infinitive, to start receiving) αὐτήν (it). ταύτην (This
is) τὴν ἐντολὴν (the command)
ἔλαβον (I receive/d, 2nd aorist active indicative) παρὰ (from) τοῦ πατρός (the father) μου (of me).
aireO and
lambanO are two different Greek words. Jesus is not say that He has authority to
take His soul (ψυχήν) back, but that He has authority to receive it back. Jesus did not release His own soul/life from hades. His Father released his soul from Hades, and put it back in Jesus' body. Then Jesus raised his own body up from the stone slab.
