Webbing and dead fly in my face is not my greatest concern - a hideous, poison-fanged arachnid in my hair, on my back or under my shirt are more my fears on these types of occasion! I think the closest reference from Westley are the ROUS - Rodents Of Unusual Size. Perhaps the real-world equivalent would be Arachnids Of Unusual Size - AOUS?

Its obviously the humble earthworm! The earthworm has neither mouth nor ears, yet it must be able to speak to its fellow earthworms in the dirt, or how else would it communicate? It can somehow hear the pecking of the birds as it will retreat into its burrow, yet has no ears of which we can speak. It has no body worthy of note, but is little more than an unpleasant-looking, elongated clump of wriggling living protein, which comes especially alive during bouts of rainfall (and which are often accompanied by wind).

The clues are in the riddle. I think it will come to somebody. I think the "hear without ears" is the most obscure (least helpful) part of the riddle. So, that's my clue.
