I also said "Climbing into a Baptistery is PART OF OUR WALK WITH CHRIST, preferably one of the first STEPS. Something WE DO AFTER WE ARE SAVED."
I've never been baptized with water. I'll bet it doesn't compare to being baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Your opinion only. Not a statement of fact.Funny how religionists that believe in works and water, especially sprinkling, flat deny the truth, the application of the word, what it represents (burial) and the fact that JESUS came up OUT of the water......Catholic roots I guess.......
Then you reject the Great Commission.I've never been baptized with water. I'll bet it doesn't compare to being baptized with the Holy Spirit.
I have had many discussions with dcontroversal about immersion only. You are mixing folks...benhur believes in immersion only (must have water baptism to be saved)..,,dcom believes in Faith alone not works.
Also ignoring the fact that in places immersion is not feasible.Amazing how many people do not understand this simple principle........immersion = a picture and public testimony of something that has already taken place by faith...........nothing more, nothing less.....
Let's go through this one step at a time. I agree with you.see you got it wrong again.
Eternal life is a gift, not a wage or reward.
Have true saving faith and you will be saved and have eternal life. As a result of these things, Works will follow.
You have the cart (works) before the horse (salvation and eternal life) .
The word back then I found was a different word than you found and was a synonym of the one you found. The word used to WASH the feet.....NO where near and or associated with Baptism.....
Peter said to Him, "Never shall You wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me."
niptó: to washOriginal Word: νίπτω
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: niptó
Phonetic Spelling: (nip'-to)
Short Definition: I wash
Definition: I wash; mid. I wash my own (hands, etc.)
THE word used for BAPTIZED, BAPTIZE, BAPTISM
Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan coming to John, to be baptized by him.
baptizó: to dip, sinkOriginal Word: βαπτίζω
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: baptizó
Phonetic Spelling: (bap-tid'-zo)
Short Definition: I dip, submerge, baptize
Definition: lit: I dip, submerge, but specifically of ceremonial dipping; I baptize
The only people who refuse to admit doctrinal error are those who in pride are bound down in a religious creed.....this argument that the word for WASHING feet is and or can be the mode of baptism is false, foolish, flat denies the above facts, truth of the word, the mode of baptism and the representation of baptism which is death, burial and COMING UP FROM THE GROUND A NEW CREATION!
You are not understanding history of the Bible. The writings of it were completed as you say. But they were sent various places and possibly a few had all of them. It took Constantine to have them copied, put with the Old Testament and sent as a package to the elders. That was the first time the whole Bible was put together in one package.HAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA wow man.......that view totally contradicts the fact that the bible was complete by 95 A.D. or so and the letters of the New Testament were being passed around and read in the churches WELL before any creed written by men....
Go back to Sunday School and start with the milk........
I've never been baptized with water. I'll bet it doesn't compare to being baptized with the Holy Spirit.
It is tragically sad how many take James out of context to make it say something that it does not say....
James compares the mental assent of faith by a man to the devils which believe (not in JESUS for saving faith, but rather that there is indeed a god (THE GOD) and the majority of the world, in some form or fashion, believes in a god, some god, many gods, but the very mental assent these people make that there is a god (THE GOD) does not equate to saving faith.
The key to understanding James point about the evidence of a saving faith is found in the words (SHOW ME) and goes to the very root of what James is saying....
What good does it do to say to someone who is hungry or cold...be filled and warmed if no coat or food is given? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING......JUST as a MERE MENTAL ASSENT that there is a GOD does NOTHING in the realm of saving a man.
The whole address of JAMES is AIMED at the ability of MEN to SEE in a MAN that invisible, biblical saving FAITH that actually goes beyond a MERE MENTAL ASSENT that their is indeed a GOD (THE GOD)
IT HAS absolutely NOTHING to do with what is required for a MAN to be saved by biblical FAITH.
JESUS is the prime example of how ALL of this bears out......HE was not made a SON of GOD by HIS IMMERSION, HE WAS NOT MADE a SON of GOD by the many wonderful works and miracles that he performed.....
HE WAS BORN the SON OF GOD BY BIRTH through the POWER of the SPIRIT......everything beyond that WAS PROOF of who he was.
JESUS was clear.....WHAT MUST I DO said the LOST MAN.....JESUS SAID, "THIS IS THE WORK of the HEAVENLY FATHER, THAT YOU BELIEVE on HIM WHOM HE HAS SENT."
NOT a MERE mental ASSENT that there is a GOD, but RATHER that the SON of GOD died on the cross to save you from your sins and that GOD has raised him up the 3rd day for YOUR JUSTIFICATION.
MEN are SAVED eternally by FAITH into the GOSPEL MESSAGE.....BAPTISM (Immersion) is the 1st ACT of obedience and the PUBLIC testimony of said FAITH........IT IS a WORK of RIGHTEOUSNESS and states to the world....I AM DEAD with CHRIST, I AM BURIED with CHRIST and I AM RESURRECTED with CHRIST as a NEW CREATION, BORN A SON OF GOD by the SPIRIT and INCORRUPTABLE SEED.
ANYTHING, ALL things beyond the INITIAL saving faith is the proof in the pudding if you will. THE whole concept of faith without works is dead IS APPLICABLE to the MENTAL ASSENT compared to the same belief in god by the devils and is not applicable unto genuine saving faith that eternally saves, justifies, seals and sanctifies positionally before GOD!
BEFORE anyone uses the words MUST HAVE...refer to the BOLDED above!!
Then you reject the Great Commission.
