One of my mentors taught me that at times like this, you have to be the shepherd of the house and either restore or release the elder....I have done this myself only once.....The Bible says do not rebuke an elder, it does not say let evil continue from the elder...An evangelist friend of mine, once attempted to deliver a demon out of an elder right in the middle of service...he did not get stupid, emotional or anything...he felt the evil coming off the elder, walked up to him and whispered in the elders ear...do you like this thing or do you want it gone....the elder smiled very wickedly and my friend heard a voice say...oh we like him and he loves us and we are working well with him, to destroy this house...my friend whispered back in the elders ear...you can have him all you want demons, but you cannot and will not operate in this house of the Lord anymore, in the name of Jesus, go.....and do not ever return...the elder and his wife got up and left and never returned...turns out he was also a 33rd degree mason...
I see elder boards creating more power than the Pastor and that is simply wrong...The local Pastor is God's man for the house God places him in...elders by Biblical definition should not even be in the church.....They should preside and oversee the work of the local church...a great elder will train great pastors and that is because great elders should be former great pastors...
