Salvation is a one time thing. When you ask Jesus to come into you life (“Jesus please come into my life and save me. Forgive me of my sins and take control of my life. I surrender it to you. In Jesus name amen.”) then He comes in. You’re changed and a new life begins. It’s like being born again. Once you’ve been saved and born again then you start walking with God and your relationship begins. You start to work out you salvation and move farther on with God (Philippians 2;12 says
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.) Unfortunately, Christians tend to get sidetracked and talk themselves out of it, and then enemy will tell them “You didn’t really get saved. That was all nonsense. Blah blah blah,” That’s why it’s important to get baptized since this helps solidify that you did get saved. After awhile, these Christians will build up enough strength and faith and they won’t be as doubtful.
As you progress in your Christian relationship, God begins planting desires and things in your heart and starts opening up the Bible to you. Scriptures you hadn’t noticed before seem to jump out. God begins to lead you further on. For some Christians they still get stuck back at salvation are not strong enough or don’t have the right teaching to move further on, or fur whatever reason.
That is what I meant by saying we need to begin moving on with God past just the Salvation experience. I’m not discounting salvation, but there is so much more.

Yeah, it's a very common thing. I've seen it many many times with different groups of people in different locations too.
I'll try to write something up later since i'm not on a PC right now with an actual keyboard. But it's not a very fun story.
uh, er, hmm.., so if one does not pray in tongues and have prophetic utterances they are not saved? I don't remember Jesus saying these were necessary. Hmm, lemme check John 3:16 again..... ...... nope, they are not there............
It is true that once saved, the newborn believer must begin to fill their souls and lives with Christ. Studying Scripture, seeking Gods purpose for their lives, fellowshipping with other believers and seeking to be Sanctified.
Speaking in tongues (other languages) is a gift of the Spirit. However, there are many more. The Apostle Paul didn't consider speaking in tongues to be all that important in discussing the gifts of the Spirit. Agape love (charity) i the greatest is it not?
True. But it’s important for ministry. I’m not sure why but tongues is usually accompanies it.
In Luke 11:13 Jesus says “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!””

He said “your Heavenly Father“ indicating they were already children of God. But hadn’t received the Holy Spirit yet.
