I don't spend my christian life worrying about my performance being good enough or I will be cast into hell.
Im in a loving relationship with Christ, I trust I am secure in him. I don't spend my time with him worrying about whether I've done enough works not to be cut off from him. How would that be a loving relationship?
This thread is NOT about YOU james.

It's NOT about me.

It's about what JESUS taught in His time here on earth.

you acted as if we don’t follow our wants. I believe we do. I didn’t say anything about being perfect. But Jesus does say we are to be perfect. The problem is we can’t be perfect which is why we need to Him to stand in our place.

When Jesus said Be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect, I'd like to highlight the context. We are to love not just those who love us, but we are to be like our Heavenly Father, loving everyone the same.

It's not an admonition to general moral excellence, though I don't say we shouldn't aim for that. But in this context, it's about loving others the same as God does, not showing favoritism.

Much love!

So then...
Does teaching the Church that we need to tithe become a requirement for the Church age?
I really don't care.

What does this have to do with salvation?
Tithing, if you want to know my OPINION...
is not necessary because Jesus said we are to give with joy...
not with coercion.

If you want to state that we do not need to obey God...
you can.

I just will never agree.

As to works...that's for you and God to know.

Not me.

Seems to me you don't even understand what good works are.

Neither does @mailmandan or anybody else that wants to teach that we don't need to obey God.

They're just afraid of the word WORKS.

or
there might actually be a reason...I certainly do not know.

what I do know is that God demands obedience.

Yes. demands.

It was stated even way back in the OT...
because GOD DOESN'T CHANGE.

1 Samuel 15:22
22And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.
Well what good works are essential, please give me an idea of your thoughts. And when did I say we don't need to live as God desires us to live?
I will give you an example where the ten commandments are concerned. I know I have no righteousness of obeying them. I went to a church once, and all they kept repeating was
''You must obey the ten commandments''
Now you may think they would obey those commands better than me in the circumstances
And yet, I was appalled to witness how casually they transgressed them, and without consciousness they were doing so
So who cared more about what is written in those commands, me who knows I have no righteousness of obeying them, or they, who kept insisting they must be obeyed.
Why should the principal not be the same with works?

Does anyone actually dispute whether it's important to obey God?

But let's be real . . . you are not able to obey even all that Jesus taught. It's actually impossible. He said that the Pharisees were right to tithe from their herb gardens. But you cannot tithe according to the Law, as there are no levites to whom you might give your tithe.

So you can do as many do, give 10% of your paycheck to your local church, but that is NOT a Biblical tithe, and does nothing towards fulfilling the Law.

Much love!

Ive already responded to that twice. The people who will love God the most are those who know their righteousness is faith in Christ, not obeying the law, not works. People who know they have a free salvation. What do you think will then follow because they love God greatly? What Jesus desires!

You just stated that we do not have to obey Christ.

OK if that's good with you.

I think we do.

Signing off now.

Parallel posts.

Even so . . . Jesus affirmed tithing, something impossible to do today, and abrogated in Paul's letters to the Church, as you've mentioned, our giving is to be not by compulsion, while the tithe was compulsary.

Much love!

It is you, sir, who are setting yourself up.

Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 16:18
.

With this,

Have you been baptized in JESUS name to remove your sins???

Hook me, do you. Have you?

Why do you share scripture when JESUS is the farthest thing from your mind?

All I can say is that our reconcilian to God is based in what Jesus did, and not in anything we did or didn't do. We do not gain salvation because of any good works, neither will we lose salvation over any bad works. It's just not about our works.

Much love!

Many still have an old covenant mindset

You have to score at least a 70 on a scale of 0-100 each day with a maximum of 3 sins a day. But each good work counts as -0.1 sins. So if you have 4 sins, you will need at least ten good works to cancel one out. Each good work that’s not used to cancel out sin counts as 1 point towards your 70 for the day.

There's a reason why there was tithing in the OT.
We're not even in those conditons anymore.

let's leave it at that.

I don’t understand this, a poster wrote to me:

‘’’You don't even TRY to obey each and every command(of Christ in the gospels)??
That's not too good.

And probably is a result of teachings such as those of the other member.’’’’

I then asked him if he obeyed a list of six of Jesus commands in the gospels I put up and got this response:

‘’’’Oh for goodness sakes james.

Are you serious?

Do you?’’’

This is not a joke Just.

Those that ask HOW MANY SINS....

may not mean what they're asking...
but it sure does sound like they're trying to get right to the dividing line....
(between saved and unsaved).
