He was quoting me. I said that. Unfortunately he doesn't breakdown posts with quotes which makes it hard to follow.
interesting.

and the clear example of scripture that contradicts his position is the straw that breaks his back, so he now decides he's going to ignore me, because 'he can't even'

WHAT WAS THAT GOSPEL?
God was manifest in the flesh, and gave Himself as an atonement for our sins, so that whoever believes in Him will be saved - removing our sin in a single hour.

that He rose the third day and returned to heaven, and that He will return again to judge the quick and the dead, and make all things new.

that whoever believes has eternal life and will not come under judgment, but whoever does not, is condemned already, because they have not believed.

maybe you wouldn't mind just clearly stating what you think the gospel is?

@Ouch

it would be useful for self contemplation so perhaps you might understand why there are so many ((baptized, Spirit filled)) Christians contending with your conversation; what their perspective is.

and overall it would be useful to bring this thread out of its deep detour back to its actual topic, the security of salvation.

so please, answer your own question:
what is the gospel?

no record of water baptism
@Ouch

pertinent question, given your apparent definition of the gospel ((please feel absolutely free to give an answer to what-is-the-gospel at any time, in fact "always be ready to give an answer" in or out of season)):

  • why does the Bible give no record whatsoever of any of the apoatles' baptism, save Paul, if indeed they were baptized at all?

in fact because i love you so much, i will also give you the answer:

John 15:3 + John 20:22

all that's left is for you to do the math :)

It seems to me he only likes the scriptures that fit his experience. See the end of his post #2814.

in the absence of his being able/willing to give a reason for his faith ((he having placed post on ig ore owing to his inability to answer post)), i will give what i surmise to be his gospel based on his conversation:

  • magic formula water bath
  • glossolalia
  • kjv

@Ouch please contradict my synopsis!!

i suppose if he really has me on his ignore list, i can speak freely. ((but post never gives up, he just gets busy and doesn't have time))

it really pains me that his experience was, reject the faith he had as a child, reject the obedient answer his heart had toward that faith, his first baptism, and start down this road of shallow understanding.

i do admire that he plods on unperturbed, tho.

he is faithful to what he felt.

actually, the scripture gives seven examples:

Woman was reborn as Eve, no water baptism
Abram was reborn as Abraham, no water baptism
Sarai was reborn as Sarah, no water baptism
Jacob was reborn as Israel, no water baptism
Hoshea was reborn as Joshua, no water baptism
Solomon was reborn as Jedediah, no water baptism
Cephas was reborn as Peter, no record of water baptism
2Sa 12:15
And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.

[2Sa 12:16 KJV]
David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.

[2Sa 12:17 KJV]
And the elders of his house arose, [and went] to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.

[2Sa 12:18 KJV]
And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?

[2Sa 12:19 KJV]
But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.

[2Sa 12:20 KJV]
Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed [himself], and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.

[Rom 4:20 KJV]
He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

[Rom 4:21 KJV]
And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

[Rom 4:22 KJV]
And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

[Rom 4:23 KJV]
Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;

[Rom 4:24 KJV]
But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

[Rom 4:25 KJV]
Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Have you been reborn?

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see (SEE, SEE, SEE) the kingdom of God.

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of (((water))) and of the (((Spirit))), he cannot (((enter))) into the kingdom of God.

Trying to figure out why you CAN'T SEE?

JESUS says we must be born of WATER, meaning being baptized and filled with his spirit.

Which Acts 2:38-39 which was the first message that Peter who had the KEYS (not key) to Heaven preached says the same thing.

You really don't see the words JESUS MADE AND BAPTIZED???

John 4:1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that (((((((Jesus made and baptized)))))) more disciples than John,
2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

The Roman Catholics superimpose the phrase "born of water" in order to compel their members to sprinkle babies. Many cults (ie Mormons), protestants( ie Apostolics, ect), and Church of Christ follow that tradition.

BORN of the flesh means physical birth.
Ask a mother if the baby was the only reason her womb was enlarged. Ask her what happened when contractions began. She will explain to any pope, pentecostal apostle or Mormon prophet what born of water means there.

  • what is born of flesh is flesh, and what is born of spirit is spirit
  • the resurrection is physical; we being spiritual beings, will be bodily resurrected - - Christ both bodily rose and bodily ascended
  • we must be both physically and spiritually born, to be reborn

That is obvious.

I did, but like you said you don't understand so what's the point of keep showing you something when you cannot see?

Then how did believers understand the things of God prior to Pentecost? This was the whole point of Jesus' discussion with Nicodemus. If you want to understand spiritual matters you must be born again. An OT prophet could not prophesy unless he was born again. If one is not born again one is utterly incapable of hearing God. Again,in big letters so you can see it.

1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Here you are again with your two baptisms. When will you learn you are only baptized into Christ once! ONE BAPTISM!!! Eph.4:5

I didn't have to be there it is written for us. From Paul's own lips.

1Cor.15:3-5
3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,

Rom.10:9-10
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Yes because he had forgotten what Christ told him before his Ascension. He didn't remember until after the Cornelius incident. We've been through this so many times already. Acts 11:16

And once again they are not being reborn, they are being baptized. Being made spiritually alive (rebirth) and being placed in Christ (baptism) are two different and distinct events. Being placed in Christ never occurred before Pentecost but being reborn occurred whenever someone believed in the Lord God. It's how they could hear/see Him. Without a rebirth, God (the True God), is nonsense to people. (1Cor.2:14) I have shown you these scriptures time and time again, when will you take them to heart and learn what they mean?

Then you have no understanding of God because that is what theology is in a nutshell. It's the study of God, who He is, what He has done, His relationship to His creation etc and our expression of that study.

You confuse regeneration and rebirth, you insist there are two baptisms, you think water can take away your sin when only the Lamb of God can do that. These are elemental doctrines and you get them wrong and I'm not the only one telling you.

Heb.6:1-3
Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do if God permits.

It isn't what we do that saves us, it is Who we believe.
Satan's plan keep them out of the water!!

If they do go in the water keep JESUS name out of it.

Nothing lives without water.

Can we enter Heaven with sin?

How do we get rid of it?

JESUS said born of water.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

He also using the word REBORN.

How can you be REBORN if not already born?

How can he expect you to OBEY what he says to do if you can't read his word, if you were not born you would not be able to?

This is what HE says we must do to be reborn.

Acts 2:38-39
King James Version
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

No specific church, just HIS word.

I like what I heard a Pastor say about loss of Salvation.

"If you believe you can lose your Salvation, then you probably already did".

Because at some level, you cannot get away from the truth, that there is something you MUST do to stay saved, instead of relying SOLELY on Christ to keep you saved.

Where's the scripture on these statements of yours? Water baptism doesn't cleanse from sin today, so where's your proof?

Sorry, but this makes no sense. If retention of salvation were a true requirement by way of our efforts (works), then works-based salvation would also be true. Paul said otherwise. He stated that we are saved by grace through faith, and that not of ourselves lest any man should boast. Introducing works as a means for retaining salvation is an argument from silence because it is boasting in self.
