What idol were the Israelites worshiping with shouting and singing when Moses arrived with the ten commandments?

The golden calf was an idol (a cult image) made by the Israelites when Moses went up to Mount Sinai. "The Sin of the Calf" is first mentioned in Exodus 32:4.
