The debate in the religious "Jewish" community had to do with timing. They are waiting for their Messiah to return first to establish Israel as a nation. Some in their community believe they should not do this themselves ahead of His return. Once they became a nation everyone accepted that and they no longer debated the subject.

No, that is to misunderstand the point Paul is making in Romans 2:28 (in Paul's SECTION covering "Israel" [and in a DIFFERENT section is covering "the Gentiles" and then has his CONCLUSION in chpt 3 that NO ONE is righteous...])...
so in the SECTION re: ISRAEL, Paul in Rom2:28 is speaking WHOLLY and ONLY of "JEWS"... "he is a Jew, which IS ONE *inwardly*" (this is NOT covering "the Gentiles" here AT ALL [that is a separate SECTION, where he covers those]. IOW, in this verse, Paul is not saying "a saved GENTILE *BECOMES* a Jew!)

I would offer. God is no longer bringing any new revelations to confirm his work . He washed his hands of using one nation to represent unbelief in mankind. This is when he said "it is finished" .

The temporal time period of pagan Kings in Israel was used as a parable or warning. It had come to the fulness of time. The veil was rent .The time of reformation came restoring the government of God in respect to the work of the Father and Son to another time period before kings in Israel .When men walked by faith the unseen eternal.
The beginning of a great tribulation of the last days that we are in. One like never before or ever again. Religion, using the temporal corrupted, lost its value to be used to show faithlessness . Men continue even today to look for a face they can add as a comforting witness as if God was a man .
Neither human eye has seen or ear heard the secret things he has set aside for his children the mysteries or understanding.
That can be seen in Jesus hiding the spiritual understanding in parables to teach us how to walk by faith.
