But using your logic... For as long as people have believed in a god, people have also disbelieved in god for an equal amount of time. And I'm pretty sure you wouldn't deem that as evidence for atheism lol
 
I would like to see evidence to the contrary. There is simply none. There are no writings disputing what Matthew mark luke and join wrote in their account of the life death and resurrection of Jesus. Wouldn't you think that some writer of the time period to have provided eyewitness accounts to the contrary of such wild and crazy claims? There are simply none.....

Nobody goes around writing stuff like "oh no one was resurrected today"

Because if I'm not mistaken, those books weren't written for the next days newspaper. They transpired some time after the event. How can it possibly be disputed then?

If someone says in 200 years that my town was affected by a plague of locusts... Even though I know full well it's not Happening now, and I don't even know someone is going to write this in the first place .. How can I dispute it in 200 years?

Well "evidence" that there are atheists is much easier than proving there is a God, wouldn't you agree?

I was just stating that your logic is flawed. Just because someone has believed or disbelieved in someone for a period of time would not make it any more plausible... Yes or no?
 
No, but you would agree that something sparked something entirely new around the first century, historically speaking. I don't buy into Joseph Smith's claims, but I am sure that he existed and that something came from it. I don't know if you can prove Jesus' lifetime and accomplishments outside of the bible - Not really huge on man's record of history. There are things that we know of that are recorded as history, but that are not accurate. Like the saying goes, "the winner writes the history (paraphrase)". But I believe that the bible has been protected by God so that we can read what he wants us to read.
 
What sets Christianity apart from all other religions is that it is testable. Furthermore, the accounts of Matthew Mark Luke and John were written obviously while they were still alive as well as countless witnesses to the life of Jesus. No one that was there said....ummm no, that's not how it happened?

Was that to me? Because I am not disputing the accuracy of the bible. I am saying I take history outside the bible with a grain of salt. Men, uninspired by God, have a way of recording history incorrectly.

If believing in God was just to keep from going to hell even I as a Christian would not go for it. My bible tells me God is love He is not waiting around for people to make a mistake to zap them out of existence. My God loves the world and the people in it so much that He sent His one and only Son to die so that we would have a way out of this wicked sinful world. My friends on this thread know right and wrong and don't need to be told that - they need to be introduced to the fact that there is a God who does know and love them and would like for them to want to get to know and love Him back.

Look around you - God said let us make man in our image in Genesis so my understanding is we humans have free will to think and choose and are made after God's own image.

My understanding is that this dream was about kingdoms not a particular people group. God was showing the kingdoms that would reign until Jesus returned and set up His eternal kingdom.

I would just like to submit to you and to IntoTheVoid that since Adam and Eve's time there have been believers and non-believers in God starting with Cain. Although Cain's big problem was he was not obedient to God and did not believe in God's system of sacrifice. Cain would have to have believed that God existed since God asked Cain about Able's death.
 
I think an important distinction can be made in how Jesus called out his followers. He didn't say believe and follow me. He just said...follow me. Jesus continually had to rebuke his followers for their unbelief.

if Jesus was still in the tomb it would have been insanely easy for the Pharisees and religious leaders of Israel to stop Christianity dead in its tracks by showing people Jesus' body. But like you said we have no writings or any evidence whatsoever of this happening.

I believe that the dream was saying that Iron (Roman) and clay (Israel/Judah) would be intertwined, but that they would not mix, so to speak. They were together, but were totally different. Then, I believe that the church was the new kingdom, and it went throughout the world. I do not believe that we will stay here on earth forever, but we are established in Jesus now while we are here, but it is part of the kingdom of heaven that will last forever. I am not waiting for a thousand year reign here on earth. I think that this has most likely already happened, although I am not really sold on the idea that a thousand years just means a long time. I think that It probably means pretty close to a thousand years. Actually, the thousand year reign gets to me more than most of the prophecies, because I don't really understand when this did or will take place.
