is it ok to believe. once saved always saved?

God is very patient with us. It's not healthy to always be fearful that He's going to turn His back on us. However, OSAS is a particularly dangerous teaching. It gives people the idea they can keep sinning willfully and everything will be cool. If you've had a bad past or a lot of trauma, it can be a long road getting to where you'd like to be with the Lord; but never give up and don't take the easy path of OSAS. God won't give up on you if you're sincere and have faith in Him.

I still keep sinning and sinning. repented. BUT I still smoke and drink.

Something is not going right here . . . If you truly repented you would not be just keeping on sinning and sinning.

I Johne 3:9 No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.

Your thread seems to be asking about "Once saved always saved." Just forget all the Calvinism and Arminian theologies. The person who has faith in Jesus Christ and his atonement is saved. The person who does not have faith is not saved. That is what the Bible tells us.

Genuine belivers will still sin.
God has given us provision and Jesus intercedes for us.
We can come before God and confess our sins.

@ResidentAlien made a great point

I was one of the people.
Due to severe childhood trauma I struggled with addictions.
I cried out to God every day for help and victory.
It never happened, I had severe anxiety and depression.
BUT I NEVER GAVE UP.
The issue was not the sin but the reason for the sin.
Eventually God revealed to me that my trauma needed healing, so I sought help.
After 40 years of severe gambling I was healed of that.

I am still working on other issues as a result but I keep asking and pressing in.
Being like Jacob, not letting go until I get that blessing.

In a sense the issue is not OSAS or having to earn our salvation.

The issue is that if we genuinely believe in Jesus and what he did and accept him and repent of the sin of unbelief in him then we will just want to be like him.

There will be times when we may not do that because of guilt and shame.
Jesus took that for us.

Those who believe in OSAS and use it as an excuse to sin and those who believe that we need to do good works to earn our salvation are wrong.

Both are dangerous paths to go down.

Paul addressed the issue that we could use grace to sin in Romans.
He made it clear it was wrong to do so and he also made it clear that we are not saved by our works.

Keep seeking God do not give up, his timing is perfect.
Be like Jacob.

is it okay? the better inquiry is: "is once saved always saved the truth"? TOTALLY! God wouldn't have to any other way! a born again Christian isn't going to hell because he smokes & drinks alcohol. however, i believe the Holy Spirit is always comforting & teaching us ways to live better, more dedicated to Jesus. the H.S. is constantly guiding us thru life for improvement. i believe that the H.S> is nudging all smokers U& drinkers to be in control & not allow moral intemperance to rule your life. i drank alcohol for decades but it never bothered me. i had the attitude of taking or leaving alcohol. in fact , there were a bunch of times that i would quit for years. i never meant anything, in a way, to me. 1st corinthians 3;16- "no ye not that you are the temple of God & that the spirit of God dwell in you". as much as we need to forsake all the common sins, health is of the utmost importance too. the fact that you posted this tells me you are thinking about quitting. you will feel so much better & even more if you are a born again Christian.

Phil 3:12Not that I have already [g]grasped it all or have already become perfect, but I press on if I may also take hold of that [h]for which I was even taken hold of by Christ Jesus. 13Brothers and sisters, I do not regard myself as having taken hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

God gives us grace to run the race. Those not running are disregarding His grace & are disqualified unless they truly repent.
