I hope it's okay to post here, given I'm not a Christian (at least not yet!).

I recently made the decision to read the Bible for the first time (embarrassing that I've never done it before, given I'm 41 now). Found the Bible app, and I'm reading (and sometimes listening to) an easy to read version, just so that I can understand it more fully. Started with the New Testament but will read the Old Testament afterwards. I'm also going to read a more full version once I've completed the easy to read one.

I've been using AI to discuss my many queries as I read it to make sure I fully understand it but liked the idea of joining a forum where I can read and join discussions with Christians as I try to understand the Bible, learn about Christianity and consider embracing it. I'm joining in good faith and look forward to the discussions.
although AI has some worthy information, i wouldn't trust it totally. your best shot at understanding the Bible is to be a believer 1st!!! because then, you have the Holy Spirit living in you for life. He will assist you in understanding The Bible. here are some top suggestions for a Bible to read: New American Standard Bible, New Revised Standard Version, English Standard Version & the Nelson King James Study Bible. the last 1 has excellent study helps & concordances.

PS:

Hello Squiggle.

Squiggle meet Scourby< 🙂

I recommend starting in the gospel of John.
This book is unique.
It is the only one that claims to be written for you.

This is what I meant by this.
Jesus has a very special blessing for those of us who weren't there with Thomas to see Him in the flesh. It's the gift of Life, the same life that Christ has... the kind that will never end.

24But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. 26And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 27Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 28And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 29Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Welcome. Jesus promised that if you seek Him, you will find Him. Please also note that the Bible is a spiritual book and not simply something to feed the mind. Much will become clear after you receive Christ. God will reveal Himself to you, if you really want to know.

There is an account in the Book of Acts where an official in the court of Candace was trying to understand a passage in the Old Testament. God sent an evangelist to help him. The passage was Isaiah 53, which foretold the coming of Jesus. No doubt someone here will help you.

Hi Squiggle, glad you're here. Thanks for sharing. It's encouraging to hear the Lord is drawing you to Himself. In your reading and listening, pay special attention to the parts about our need for salvation and the role of Jesus as our Savior; that's what the Christian faith is all about. The other stuff will come in time. God bless!
