I grew up with isolation. Agree on the cold part. Most humans are pack mammals. After being in the maddening crowd, yes it can be, but it can also be cold, silent and dreadful. May God continue to give us what we need in every season.
Thanks for the correction, iron sharpens iron, yes Proverbs 27:17. The message bible makes reference to steel sharpening steel, and that's what comes to mind for me when I think of that verse. Thank you for sharing.writers and artists have retreats in communities as well. You just need to find your 'tribe'. That is why bands form, and there are special studios. I think independence can be good though a co-op can actually work better.
I dont remember the steel sharpens steel, I do know that IRON sharpens IRON though.
temptations are around us all the time whether alone or in crowds. If you live in a big city, I think having a retreat from the daily hustle and bustle is needed. Thats why green parks are so important.
That's alot to have been through, I'm thinking of you and praying for youI know what you mean it helps but it doesn't cure loneliness, You try to forget about being lonely but it's hard, having friends help, but if you have friends that hardly speak to you it doesn't help, and that's where I'm at that's why I pray a lot read the word and listen to worship music worship God and Jesus even more than usual, Jesus he never leaves my side he is always there for me I have been through a lot not being able to eat solid food for about two years because my throat was messed up from a surgery, praying worshiping God is what help keep me alive and lead to me getting well, I also had cancer and got healed, losing my dad the day before Easter this year was hard to deal with the hospital starved him to death a very bad way to die because of them I don't have a dad anymore, it took a lot for me to forgive that hospital that's just some of what I went through and Jesus never left my side, now I am called to preach to young people.

Being grateful is one key (when I start to feel sad I think of the more less fortunate than I am, like the orphans, the street children, people who begs, people who are incapacitated, who are bed ridden, abused, or in rehabilitation center.. etc... makes me more appreciative in what I have right now and be thankful to God, also you can pray for them in the process) you'll feel better after.
Try different things, see what you love doing most, find what makes you happy, then incorporate it in your life when you feel lonely, you can do one or more.
Just in moderation when it comes to TV.
Hope it helps.
Thanks for sharing. Well my favourite shows are Seinfeld and Big Bang, and since I joined in my church's corporate fast early this year I felt God say to me once again that those shows do not honor Him, as the lifestyles portrayed are not of Him, because they normalize fornication etc. I made a decision to leave these shows out of my life to honor God, it has been difficult, but God is worth my All.I like old movies and TV shows. I have a PS4 i use as a dvd/bluray player and lots of dvds my late wife and i collected. Also have the Tubi app d/loaded on the PS4. Lots of movies and shows on there and its free.
I also play lord of the rings online on PC. Lots of people to play with and make friends. I play with one friend i met in world of warcraft over 10 years ago. Thats what I do to fill the void.
Sorry to hear that you grew up in isolation, praise God that with Jesus we are never left or forsaken.I grew up with isolation. Agree on the cold part. Most humans are pack mammals.
my country was the most isolated from the rest of the world on earth at the time and only in the past 250 years have people been arriving from all over the world.
I can totally understand the need or even drive for more people and the building of cities. If youve lived in a small isolated town all your life or in the country, you get lonesome.
But its funny, my mother fled her city that had ten times the population to come live here. I think people dont value space (or land) until they lose it.
People in cities dont have land, they live 10 storeys up in the air. It can get to you. The crowdedness, the bustle and the noise, yet for some people that is energizing and they cannot imagine anything else.
Look at the dimensions listed in the Bible. That many miles CUBED will be a whole lot of living space.its noted that the new Jerusalem is a heavenly CITY
Its not a village, town or hamlet. So it must somehow accomodate a great number of people.
Thanks for sharing Mac, this was such a great post. To be completely transparent I have done many of the things you mentioned for many years and life was good, but this year I felt God show me that burying myself in these things to deal with my loneliness has been the cause of the many occasions when I feel far away from Him or fall into sin, so I've changed my life around and that meant leaving my comfortable ways of dealing with loneliness. Slowly but surely God is teaching me, here's what I've learnt so far:
1. God wants to know how I'm feeling, so I confide in Him when I feel lonely.
2. Reading the word and meditating on it has helped.
3. Sincere praise and worship helps.
4. Arising and asking 'How can I serve today- both God and man' helps. I heard that one from God yesterday.
5. Now Mac thanks to your post, I will add 'Having a grateful heart'
Thank you! Ettenauj, Yes and it's only some of what I have been through, But Jesus has been there to bring me through it all, I appreciate the thoughts and prayers thank you! That's alot to have been through, I'm thinking of you and praying for you.
Loneliness is a function of division... you desire other...
This is impossible if you have the Spirit... which is one...
Depends on whether it's real loneliness or just boredom. Some people have trouble distinguishing between the two - they think they are lonely when they are really just bored and don't have any focus for their lives.Really? I think Elijah and Jeremiah might disagree with you. And that whole why have you forsaken me thing from the cross that Jesus said; that sounds pretty lonely to me.
