Sure it does.....and it was pointed at you.....both examples you cite do not fit the context that you view them in and or attribute them to.....

it makes them feel better if they say that, The pharisee did the same thing, Thankged God he was nto like th sinner.. Same difference. They both base their faiht on works of righteousness (self) not the work of Christ on the cross. Its sad.
Work "out" not work "for".
All sin is willful. Have you sinned willfully, even once, after you were saved? If we have even a single sin unforgiven we are lost and on our way to hell. Jesus isn't coming back to die for any more sins.
That puts the emphasis on you and not on Christ. You would then get the glory and not Jesus.
That's a contradiction in terms. If you have to pay/work for something, it's not a gift. A gift is free. Grace is unmerited.

Grace is absolutely not a license to sin. We should live as holy a life as we can, not to receive or maintain salvation, but out of gratitude for what Jesus has done for us.
Jesus did all the work necessary to get us to heaven. We can work and receive wonderful rewards in heaven (at the Judgment Seat) or we can do little, and receive little reward. Our works before men only justify us before men.
Why would it be so surprising that an apostate appeared a sheep only to be found a goat? You then use yourself as an example that it would be absurd and impossible for you to be proven later to never have been a true believer. Study out perseverance of saints. It's not really about your works, it's about whether in the end your faith is proven genuine.
People don't know, or tend to gloss over the fact, that God chastens His children, as a good father would. He will correct us - sometimes harshly - even to the point of taking us home before our time.
Keep in mind that neither you or I can see into the future. Years from now your brother-in-law, if he was truly saved, will return to the Lord, (remember the Prodigal son and how far into sin he went). it may even occur on His death bed.
Remember, there are no real atheists - only fools.
Keep praying for him. Our fervent prayers avail much!
If you look deeper, that verse is taking about the Tribulation Saints and has nothing to do with salvation per se, but being saved from those who seek to kill them.

God's Truth is simply accept my free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. That is the only requirement to go to heaven.
Any born again person would never just "relax, kick up their feet, do nothing."

If you aren't growing up into Christ, increasing in the qualities of the Spirit, you need to wonder if you belong to Christ.
You do not need to keep asking this uninformed question. It's been answered over and over for you. It's not about a set number of works. It's about if you're growing up. You know that you belong to Christ and will be saved when he comes back by if the fruit of the Spirit is growing ever more in your life.

The sureness of your calling and election comes from seeing the work of the Holy Spirit in your life.
The security of salvation comes from the perfect and never ending ministry of Christ.
It's important to distinguish between the security of salvation and the assurance that you possess, and continue to possess, the salvation that is secure.

Well, let's just say they would not be able to do that forever. Sooner or later, if the immature believer persists in not obeying the Spirit, and resists God's efforts to bring them to obedience, he will eventually turn them over to their unbelief.

Not true at all. Some who persevere to the end and are saved do so by resisting to the point of death-Revelation 2:10.
What the overcoming, persevering saint will be saved from is the second death-Revelation 2:11.
How does one overcome? By placing their faith in Christ alone. That is what saves them from eternal separation from God - the second death. It's not by your will power, resistance, strength, or any good works you do,
Face it, Ralph. You simply want to share glory due only to God. You love to boast about how you "overcome". You yearn for credit regarding your salvation. Like the Pharisees, you desire the praise of men, and all of your fake humility won't change what is apparent to everyone here.
How do you know you will persevere to the end, Ralph? How do you know, with your fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants salvation, you'll make it all the way? How do you know you'll do just enough good works to keep you "in" and "prove" you are one of the redeemed?
You give plenty of lip-service to Jesus, but it's plain the root of your redemption is yourself. It's blatantly obvious by your posts, you're trusting in yourself and your abilities for your salvation.
It's Jesus plus nothing, not Jesus plus Ralph.
