Funny how I do not read anything about a flat Earth nor a young Earth as integral to salvation in the NT
The scriptures in my NT teach me of faith in Christ Jesus, repentance towards God, water baptism by full immersion with baptism in the Holy Spirit and that these signs shall follow them that believe (and to walk in the Spirit).
Nothing whatsoever about a flat Earth versus a spherical Earth.
As for Genesis 1 yes this is truth and sets out the order by which Jesus created the Earth and all that is within it: but again
Genesis 1 does not preach an Earth that is only 6,000 years old.
Some people claim that a mathematical derivation using the Bible leads them to the conclusion that the Earth is of the order of 6,000 years old.
This mathematical derivation is of course fallacious, and this is easily demonstrated by considering that the same mathematical derivation (purely using the Bible) would yield the exact same answer in 10,000 years as it would have 1,500 years ago.
This is another great example of how some people interpret the Bible in a wider context than intended.
Other examples, including the one above, are:
- The Earth is of the order of 5,000 years old.
Because mathematical derivation using the Bible says so.
- An unmarried couple shouldn't live together.
All because thousands of years ago it was traditional (not Biblical) for a man to build a house on the side of his in-law's.
I can't be bothered to go on, but my posts in other threads outline several.
Obviously the big one, the big daddy of man made pseudo-religious control is sex before marriage.
