Perhaps we should make a distinction between doctrines essential to salvation and those beneficial to edification. Neither praise nor the lord's supper are essential to salvation, but they both can be edifying. I say can because most modern Christian music makes me want to throw up a little in my mouth.

This thread was created to discuss essential Christian doctrines, which true Christians hold. For example, if you don't believe Jesus was resurrected, then you have the wrong Jesus. Churches/people who base their faith on erroneous essential doctrines are outside the Christian family. We treat them as any other non-believer.

I agree that is essential for salvation and is what I stated in my first post. But is it essential for salvation that somebody believes Jesus is God? I don't think so, however it is edifying to know that he is.

So, you think someone is saved who does not praise God for Christ's atonement?!

A better question as pertains to essential doctrine for salvation is "does someone have to praise God to be saved?" Praise is a fruit, not a doctrine

I don't see how you can divorce doctrine from practice or even why you would want to do that?

In order to focus on the essential things, like love and faith and Jesus walking in our midst. The church in Ephesus in Revelation was very busy with doctrine, but Chriat rebuked them for losing sight of the most essential thing, ie, the light walking in their midst

I agree that outward praise is a fruit, manifesting saving faith (cf. Gal. 5:22-23).

Inward praise and worship could be understood as synonymous with faith and thus be deemed essential,
but this is not the normal way those are spoken of in Scripture, speaking of which, perhaps Romans 12:1b is most
relevant: "Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--This is your true and proper worship [praise]."

Matthew 15:8 also comes to mind, "These people honor [praise] me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me."

It is sad and dumbfounding that you think someone can be saved who ignores and does not worship God!

You know, if I never sang another song in my life, or never lead another worship service, or wrote another scripture based song, I would still be 'saved' by the blood of Christ shed for me and all who call upon Him. You know, at this point and considering all the attacks you have made against me simply because I disagree with your personal interpretation of scripture, it may be appropriate to say 'get thee behind me unsavory spirit'.

Doctrine is beliefs. Practice is actions taken based on those beliefs. It's important to make the distinction.

I agree with distinguishing them as long as they are not divorced.
I like to say saving faith is the horse and good works are in the cart, but we should not put the cart before the horse.

What attacks? Quote one!
All I said was "It is sad and dumbfounding that you think someone can be saved who ignores and does not worship God!"
Note that I said nothing about singing, etc.

Oh we have a long history as you well know. See below what you actually said. You first of all made a false statement about me and then continued with it is dumbfounding if I think someone can be saved if they do not worship God.
