A question has been on my mind for a couple of months. On Twitter, some Christians frequently use this phrase to end arguments. It seems wrong to go right to a curse from brother and sisters in Christ that are to forgive 70x7 what are your thoughts? Have you ever used this verse. Thanks
I see Matthew 18:24-35 where this was asked by Peter to Jesus, how many times am I to forgive sin? 70x7
What about the same one over and over again done to me, my asking?
What about me , my doing wrong over and over again also? I know and you know Father, "I" do not want to do anymore wrong, yet I have and still can, not able to predict any future event, only spit ball what I might conjecture and then still mess up again. I see now, it is "I" me in the way isn't it?
now read through those verses, and see you being the one forgiven by God through Son, that at that time this was written (Was after the death burial and resurrection) Yet, it was about before his going to that cross to forgive us all, as is now done for us all through Son's one time willing sacrifice, it is finished All are reconciled (2 Cor 5:17-20) just no new life in the risen Son yet given, until one believes God personally, between God and them, personally
Then one does not have to prove to anyone, that they believe, their fruit will reveal it.
Okay, reading those scriptures, I see that person got forgiven 100% of everything he had done. Everything. Then went out and saw another that owed him and demanded payment. And would not forgive that person, even though God forgive him/her.
Matthew 18:24-35
24 In the process, one of his debtors was brought in who owed him $10 million!
$10 million, literally, “10,000 talents.” Approximately £3 million. 25 He couldn’t pay, so the king ordered him sold for the debt, also his wife and children and everything he had.
26 “But the man fell down before the king, his face in the dust, and said, ‘Oh, sir, be patient with me and I will pay it all.’
27 “Then the king was filled with pity for him and released him and forgave his debt.
28 “But when the man left the king, he went to a man who owed him $2,000
$2,000, approximately £700. and grabbed him by the throat and demanded instant payment.
29 “The man fell down before him and begged him to give him a little time. ‘Be patient and I will pay it,’ he pled.
30 “But his creditor wouldn’t wait. He had the man arrested and jailed until the debt would be paid in full.
31 “
Then the man’s friends went to the king and told him what had happened. 32 And the king called before him the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil-hearted wretch! Here I forgave you all that tremendous debt, just because you asked me to—33 shouldn’t you have mercy on others, just as I had mercy on you?’
34 “Then the angry king sent the man to the torture chamber until he had paid every last penny due. 35
So shall my heavenly Father do to you if you refuse to truly forgive your brothers.”
Unfortunately today that last verse has caused troubles, in having to obey or else attitudes of flesh nature, you better or else. Over turning to being willing to obey God in risen Son as forgiven. Father asks and we the kids say yes, and do, not always at first like Jonah, but we do.
There is a gigantic difference to me at least
Having to, is under Law that keeps flesh in sin again and again and again as stated in Romans 7 to me at least.
Romans 7:10 I found the Law to be death to me, it was suppose to save me, I now see it can't as is revealed in and out of the first Testament, no one can.
"I" need God, anyone else, thank you
Believe God, receive from God and see new as you then begin to grow up in maturity, thank you Father and Son as Won (One)
So, Son did it in our place to give us new in his risen Life for each of us kids to love all, not a few as is still taught by religion to only love those that love them back under Law
Born new is willingly loving all, even whenever anyone does not feel like loving anyone over the wrongs done to you by them.
Not easy to see past the wrongs done to us each personally. yet when you do, you will be freed for sure
the truth sets one free indeed and there is a growth first unto maturity to eat meat and not need milk anymore
Hebrews 5:12-Chapter 6 verse 3 of chapter 6 states if God will permit. I see that If is really since, not an if as got translated as an if, when in Greek, if means since
