It’s basically a Jewish idiom that was given new meaning by Jesus.

Jews in the time of Jesus would sometimes shake the dust off their feet when leaving a Gentile (non-Jewish) town—symbolizing that they were leaving behind impurity. Jesus flips this and tells His disciples to do the same to Jewish towns that reject the Gospel—it’s a radical statement.

Paul did the same regarding Jews and circumcision in Philippians 3:2, calling
Jews "dogs," whereas before it had been Gentiles who were referred to as dogs.

Philippians 3 verse 3; Colossians 2 verse 11; Romans 2 verse 29b ~ For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh. You were also circumcised, in the putting off of your sinful nature, with the circumcision performed by Christ and not by human hands. Circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code.

if you dig into the Hebrew language, you will see that Paul used strong words at times. real strong.

Heh, do you mean like when he said he wished they would castrate themselves? (Galatians 5:12)

A question has been on my mind for a couple of months. On Twitter, some Christians frequently use this phrase to end arguments. It seems wrong to go right to a curse from brother and sisters in Christ that are to forgive 70x7 what are your thoughts? Have you ever used this verse. Thanks
I have on occasions thought of that verse when dealing with atheists with an attitude.. But i think it should never be quoted or used in relation to a internal christian discussion / debate over doctrine.. Yeah one may kick the dust of their feet if dealing with a false Christian refusing to acknowledge the truth of core Christian doctrines.. But it seems to be pointless to actually quote that verse to the other person..

And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet
Remember, "He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me." Matt 10:40

While the gospel is freely given, remember the principle "Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding." Prov 23:23 "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Luke 12:34

Recall the parable of the sower,
"And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended." Mark 4:16-17
"But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty." Matt 13:23
"...these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, " Mark 4:20

And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Without faith it is impossible to please God.

And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet
"Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do." Luke 23:34

It very simply tells us what it’s about as the Bible usually does

“And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭6:11‬ ‭KJV‬‬
Literally yes, thanks
