IMO confession is what Catholics do to a priest. Acknowledgement is walking in agreement with God, ie, saying the same thing. Homo (same) logeo (something said)
Can two walk together, except they be agreed? Amos 3:3
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
Confess
G3670 ὁμολογέω
homologeo (ho-mo-lo-ǰe'-ō) v.
1.
to affirm.
2.
to admit, acknowledge.
When we admit we are a sinner and confess Christ and repent of our sins we should have the belief that we have to turn away from sins and do not want to do sins for if not then how is it repenting.
2Ti 3:4 lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Some people do not come to that truth but enjoy sin saying we cannot abstain from sin, and we are not perfect.
Or they repent of all their past sins and repent of a sin when they do it but hold unto the sin which is not repenting if you hold on to the sin, or they do not repent believing they are covered.
They do not allow the Spirit to lead them because they love the ways of the flesh believing they are saved and never come to the truth.
These people were not saved to begin with and their repentance was faulty.
1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
1Co 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Some believe that God chooses them in the beginning so they cannot fall so they enjoy sin believing they are alright and do not understand the Bible.
God wants all people to be saved and whoever wants that salvation can have it.
The Bible plainly states that the Lord knows them that are His having this seal that everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Which is why Jesus said depart from me you who work iniquity.
So how can they say that their sins do not matter, and if we have to abstain from sin then there is a way to do it which is to allow the Spirit to lead us.
Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
A Spirit led person will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh and God will give them an escape from temptation so they can bear it.
So what is the excuse.
But not everybody comes to the truth denying the power thereof.
Their repentance is no good unless they turn away from sin.
Luk 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Rom 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
1Co 9:26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
1Co 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Castaway
From G1 (as a negative particle) and G1384; unapproved, that is, rejected; by implication worthless (literally or morally): - castaway, rejected, reprobate.
2Pe 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
2Pe 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
2Pe 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
These are people that have been saved but they went back to enjoying sin and if they do not correct it they will be cut off like the Jews in the Old Testament that did not obey.
If they do not correct it they are not fit for the kingdom of God.
Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
If a person holds on to sin the blood of Christ cannot wash it away for God will not take away a sin they hold on to.
For those that hold unto sin believing they are saved denying the power thereof and never come to the truth none of their sins have been washed away.
For those that have been saved every time they sin they forfeit repentance so they are back at square one and must repent.
