Cady Heron turned into a Regina George clone.

Sorry if I spoiled the movie for you. But it's interesting to see the racial dynamics play out in the original. Imagine if Cady found out that Regina was actually her cousin or something. Or if her African childhood boyfriend (who rejected her) came to the US.

Now that would make an interesting threequel. Waiting for Mean Girls 3.

My great-grandparents on my father's father's side were first cousins. I dated my 2nd cousin once-removed for a short time. Interestingly, I got more grief from my family for dating a girl of Korean heritage who was adopted by a family in the church as a baby. The one who objected most was my great-grandmother on my dad's mom's side who just happened to be half Choctaw...

I think families that have been in one place for a loong time have this problem, they are opposed to foreigners, they just don't want anyone different inheriting their land.

There are hardly any full-blood Maori left in NZ though, most have intermarried with the British. However among the British, its more the Irish/Scots rather than the English. Welsh are rare, though my kiwi church friend did marry a Welshman. He met her in London, she was on her OE, saw that she was kiwi, and was smitten, because he was a big rugby fan.

Remote Pacific Islanders also have this problem, which is why there is a lot of Samoan/German couples, or Samoan Chinese. And Tahitians tend to go for visiting foreigners, because if you from a tribe you don't really want to marry your own tribe. Everyone would just know all your business.

A good friend of mine is of Samoan royal heritage. She married a Samoan who turned out to be very abusive. She lives in NZ now. You might be familiar with her nephew Keven Mealamu.

No that name doesn't ring a bell. But I went to a Samoan majority church for a while.
There was one boy in my primary school who turned out to be of royal heritiage, I can't remember if he was Samoan or Tongan. Probably Tongan as he was a big boy. Tongans are massive. They can be like sumo wrestlers in bulk.

Now you have to be careful because when Islanders turn violent, they can do serious damage, simply because many are huge. But when peaceful they are the sweetest people ever. And they are very demonstrative, like I was never hugged and kissed so much as I when I was in the Islander church. I was also welcomed a lot more than I ever was in the Pakeha (white) majority church.

Some of my Cousins have married out. My chinese cousin married a Norweigian descent. And my canadian chinese cousin married a white canadian (not sure exactly what descent, probably British, as she was protestant, not Catholic.)

So there are a few 'Wasians' in my family. My wasian cousin is going out with a German gal.

But all my aunty and uncles on my mum's side have married fellow Chinese. I think maybe it's just a language thing.

My kiwi chinese cousin married american chinese and they had a son. Their son was born with a harelip. He had surgery, so you can't tell now. But he was their only child, and they are separated now.
Kiwi chinese cousin is now going out with white american ladies.

aah well I'm not the biggest rugby fan. But yea he's pretty famous.

Um..think it was a Maori bloke who felled the tree, but Maori have their reasons for being violent. It can be part of their culture. If you had to fend for yourself for a long time, you just grow up in a violent environment.

I worked in a school that had a lot of Tuvaluan children. One day I overheard some gossip in the library that some girls found out they were cousins, and the crushes they had on the boys were also cousins.

Small world.

I visited the Maori museum in Rotorua when I was there. Incredible how they stepped up during WWII to represent NZ. It reminded me a lot of the Indian nations here in the U.S.

Yea Maori Battalion.

The sad thing is after they came home, the Brits still treated them like trash.

Here in Finland it is legal, but I do not know anyone who has married or even dated a cousin. Personally I think it is too close.

Wouldn't dating a cousin just be hanging out with family? At what point would it be 'romantic'.

What do singles think of cousins dating..and marriage. Is it legal or illegal where you are?
Does it happen often?

The only time I've heard of it was in the movie/book Gone with the Wind where Ashley Wilkes married his cousin Melanie Hamilton. Scarlett was jealous as she was in love with Ashley so she married Melanie's brother Charles out of spite.

I suppose cousins with the same surname are somewhat more related than cousins with different surnames? Same male lineage or something? Also I'm sure it happened in the Bible, but can't think of who it was exactly, and if it was prohibited.
jerry lee lewis married his cousin.

its against God's commands
No. Even thou I do think it is too close, and there are risks of genetic problems, the Bible does not forbid marriage between cousins. It is the closest family relationship that Scripture permits within the marriage laws given.

Numbers 36:11:
“Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, married their uncles’ sons.”

These women married their cousins in order to keep their inheritance within their tribe and family line. The text presents this as lawful and appropriate, not as a violation of God’s commands.

Yea it's mostly to do with family/tribal inheritance.
After all the OT Bible is ALL about the Promised Land. No getting away from it, unless you are exiled.

Oh, how I wish I could edit my post above. I would remove the incomplete sentence that I accidentally left at the bottom.
