wow people still going on about it

yea PTAs can only go so far before they go rogue according to one wannabe Principal I talked to who liked to be the only one in control . She reminded me of Mrs Trunchbull in Matilda who kept a chokey chamber in her back office.

Has anyone seen the movie Heathers? There are Heathers in every school.

Children borrowed the Bible all the time it wasnt parents borrwing. Some didnt return but I just bought more lol

You bring up some good points. I had the opportunity to take a course called growing kids God's way. One of the things that stuck with me the most was that much of what children do needs training and not punishment. Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child according to Proverbs. Children are a forgetful lot. What many parents view as rebellion is just lack of training.
Before punishment is meted out, it should be determined whether the child's actions are rebellious in nature or merely foolishness.
It's simple enough to do. By giving the child the opportunity to correct or do the action required will let you know. If they comply, it is usually a matter of foolishness which can be corrected with training. If they do not comply, it is generally rebellion which necessitates some form of punishment.
I offer this explanation because punishing foolishness can lead to deep-seated resentment on the part of children. When they are punished for things that they never intentionally disobeyed, they will inevitably feel they have been unjustly dealt with.
This

I saw a lot of teachers werent able to assess the situation properly if they were just reacting out of anger.

it seems some just wanna justifying smacking small children cos they dont really know how to handle them. And dogs? Well never had my own dog but I would never have smacked a cat to try and teach it to obey lol

with dogs you meant to train them with treats I do know when theyve been abused by their neglectful owners who dont train them it scars them for life. I remember dog sitting and this dog was a former pound dog and she wanted to come with me to work, she couldnt bear staying at home by herself.

I rmember some children really wanted to do Bible at school but their parents wouldnt let them.

One of my friends whos a grandma got in trouble with her daughter when she tired to 'spank" her one year old grandson for being naughty.

Im not sure what the situation was although I heard it from the grandmas POV. Maybe the daughter wasnt watching I dont know. Maybe the daugher wanted to be the only one doing the ' spanking'.

I think with 1 year olds and toddlers they just want to explore and need boundaries and watching first before being beaten up for doing what they are probably naturally going to do.

I'd be in favor. I was spanked in school a couple of times (which was followed up with a much more serious spanking at my house.) When my son was in school there was no corporal punishment but if he got any discipline he would get a spanking. Same now with my grandnephew, who I have about half the time.

at my school we have 4 hour 30 minute detentions on a saturday, these are held one saturday every 3 weeks , those students being punished must wear full school uniform and are set 4 hours of school work to do normally punishment essays or lines

I agree for older kids. I know I got to the stage where a few cuts of the cane were a badge of honour. That's serious rebellion, typical teenager. However, younger kids respond way better to physical discipline. I don't know that schools should administer physical discipline. Parents are responsible for the child's upbringing.

I'm at the point that I really don't want to tell any school district anything about how to discipline children nor do I want them to do it.

Public schools and some private ones have a twisted sense of justice anymore.

I dont want some transexual deciding to spank teenage girls or boys after removing their clothing.
AND
When my son was in school I discovered that justice there was often lopsided towards "favorited" students and bent against those who were more independent and free thinking.
(Students who may not like or admire a teacher but still understood the roles and learned from the teacher)

A simple but clear set of expectations of behavior and consequences for failure to meet those expectations is all that is required.

My 9y.o. cousin was warned specifically from asking AI to write or perform his homework or classwork. He failed in that expectation.
He was lucky in that he was allowed to continue in the school. And his father made it difficult to sit anywhere that wasn't padded.
As well as he lost privileges of fun activities provided to him.
That's how things are supposed to work.

However....that's not what will happen if all schools have administration that are allowed or expected to use corporal punishments to gain control over their classrooms.

I'm not opposed to corporal punishments in a blanket fashion by anyone anywhere....but it's been withheld, abused and subject to abuse by so many people that simply have zero regard for true justice and are more interested in short term expediency.

I've also seen students who have been regularly physically abused at home laugh at getting swats in school, even being disgusted because they weren't beaten sufficiently hard enough as to require medical attention....all it produced was more contempt for the school authorities. (Meanwhile the teachers administering the swats were reduced to tears from being required to administer them)

I could also imagine there could be scenarios these days where a child is punished for not calling a man 'her' or a woman 'him.'

Or the dreaded "they/them"

And getting swats as a result of getting the mystical pronouns incorrect.

By some crossdressing homosexual the school cannot legally now refuse to hire because he his a homosexual, who enjoys spanking little boys. I don't trust the morals of a lot of teachers these days.
