The bolded sentence above is interesting. I had never before noticed it. The Lord Jesus here is talking to the Jews, under the Old Covenant, and He is exhorting them to keep the law of Moses. True obedience means doing (or not doing) what is prescribed by CURRENT laws.

There is a difference between sin and sin. We are all sinners, but we are not all liars, thieves, adulterers, etc. In my opinion, when Paul says we have been set free from sin, he is referring to lie, theft, adultery, etc., not to occasional evil thoughts and things like that.

What you wrote (on top) differs from what Paul wrote in Romans 6:18. You say that a Christian may or may not be released from sin. Paul, however, says that all true Christians have been set free from sin.

I do believe, why shouldn't I? Do they go through an official recognition process or is it a matter of conscience? For example: When a member feels they have been released from sin do they automatically stop keeping the Law?

Yes, there are differences between the teachings of the Earthly Jesus and those of the risen Jesus. For example: The Earthly Jesus taught obedience to the law of Moses while the risen Jesus (through Paul) released us from the Law.
