I also suffer from Bipolar and am very afraid of speaking in tongues or hearing from the Trinity. I am also very confused about what the scripture says. I wonder if I am blocking them because of my fear? I feel like a phony.

Yes, that is what I meant.
I used to have that problem too. The way I fixed it? Woke up and realized it was all false.
I was saved through a pentecostal church at 14. I spent the next four years in pentecostal churches and groups. I did "speak in tongues" at times, but not often. Meanwhile it seemed as though everyone i knew could do it on command.
It made me feel like I was doing something wrong. I always felt shame, fear and frustration. Eventually I realized what a negative affect it was all having on me, personally, as well as spiritually. And I spoke to others who had the same experience.
So I started weening off of those beliefs and it was a literal relief. Even physically. I felt free getting out of the Charismatic mindframe. As I got older and reflected back on those times, I realized how many more things were having negative effects on me from those beliefs. And, again, I found others with the same experience.

As a teenager, I attended the altar to receive the Holy Spirit. However, I did not feel any different and jabbered so I did not disappoint my pastor. I also was traumatized as a child as my mother spoke in tongues but was physically abusive to me. Also my sister. who is schizophrenic talks in tongues sometimes and says God says, Jesus says, or the Holy Spirit says that on a certain date, this will happen? However. it never comes to pass. I also suffer from Bipolar and am very afraid of speaking in tongues or hearing from the Trinity. I am also very confused about what the scripture says. I wonder if I am blocking them because of my fear? I feel like a phony.
Salvation is assured when you truly believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus on the third day. It is THEN that you are filled with Holy Spirit, and speaking in tongues is not something you must expect as a proof of your salvation. That's assured by scripture. Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. You don't have to be water baptized for salvation, and you don't have to ASK for forgiveness of your sins. The sinner's prayer is an invention of men, not God.

What happened to this chat site haven't been in a while and different doesn't feel as useful no more live chat disappointing especially when I've donated to this place in the past Speaking In Tongues and interesting subject which I learned some valuable information on the end of the day I used to think the people that speaking gibberish or just falls baking it and I think I've been told that when you do it brings a joy inside of yourself that brings you closer to God still I couldn't do it personally I'd feel fully to fake Speaking In Tongues without it being for a purpose that brought glory to the Lord
ONENESS Pentecostals (UPCI) ad their own HERESY to the mix by claiming that IF YOU HAVEN"T SPOKEN IN TONGUES - You're not saved. ALl major Pendecostal denominations diasgree, and state the salvation has no connection to tongues.

I"ve heard people say that their experience was one cataclysmic and joyful. Personally, my experience was totally peaceful, but I did feel a relief that the gift was now operating in me.

If you have spoken in tongues before, please share your experience here and how you were able to receive such gift.
First off, I grew up in a church that didn't practice tongues, and didn't really bring me up to believe or even be aware of the gifts, but my older sister and I both ended up attending the local Christian college that is Pentecostal. God therefore used that college to introduce the gifts to my family by my sister being suddenly granted this gift at a chapel or prayer meeting. Therefore when it was my turn to go to that college, I also was prayed for to receive this gift by a dorm sister, I believed and ... nothing.

I therefore went back to my Bible and read up on the gifts of the Spirit. It was then that I realized that the population of my college over-emphasized the gift of tongues in particular, and that 1 Corinthians 14 starts out with Paul telling us to pursue the greater gift - prophecy. I therefore obediently asked God for prophecy, even though all my peers valued tongues. Nothing happened, so I went on my way, determined to trust and love God even if I didn't ever have any flashy gifts, but also refusing to doubt that God could grant me any gift if He wanted to.

Another few years passed and God led me to a new church with a very devoted population. Attending a women's prayer group I was sharing about my relational difficulties with my brother. Another woman there suggested that if I had the gift of tongues I could redirect my frustrations with him to tongues. The ladies all prayed and this time I received the gift. (Though actually, it never worked that way until this week when I got angry at someone when I was laying in bed half asleep.)

My gift, though, has never seemed as strong as others, and sounds quite repetitive. But in a follow-up meeting, I was invited to practice while an interpreter was present, and I was utterly shocked to hear how completely my heart at that moment was laid bare in just a sentence or two.

Not the end of the story.

A few more years passed and God revealed that He actually made me to be a Prophet - thus indicating that He had intended me to have that "greater gift" all along that I only ever asked for out of obedience. No wonder my gift of tongues seems so weak compared to that of others. Basically I don't need it as much.

Praying that long is ridiculous. You're listening to the wrong people. I'd suggest reading your New Testament.
I don't seem to be able to do that either, but there are people called to be prayer warriors. The Spirit gives out the gifts as He determines (1 Cor. 12). Maybe you and I just didn't get that gift.

We should have a thread dedicated to miracles, signs and wonders, healing etc. It would be fascinating to hear all the wonderful stories that our members have personally witnessed.
My family used to have a notebook for such things. We lost it a long time ago, but these days the entries would be too numerous to bother with.

Not interested in hearing your bible flex and your passages.
That's unfortunate for you to pass on ''Bible flex/passages'' as you later said you wanted people to learn?? Still, it was your call in posts 1&2. I think that intent received a drifting from that topic though. Still, your call.

So, I thought the redeemed still upholds the Apostolic tradition? If so, for those who question extended windows of time of praying in the spirit, , wouldn't that Christian want to honor the same intent? ''I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all'' (1Cor 14:18).

Fake Tongues

Ever try to confirm that notion in GW? It's not there. But the forward of sloppy sounding tongues IS. (1 Cor 14:39)

Inaudible, Un-intelligble and intelligible Prayer

Thank you for that 'Magenta', I had forgotten that one. Not to mention, touching on my experience with this gift, , you who feel it is better to throw off the inner endurance from receiving further blessing from Him might want to rethink that, ''confidence'' kept, the bible tells us is the gateway to reward. You must stick your nose to the grindstone and plug away if in fact you have received it. (If not, no worries, God has an establishing for you somewhere as well.)

First off, if He isn't leading you into a message to be interpreted in a fellowship setting, that leaves only two more places that gift of tongues is said to be used, 1. before the unbeliever ''as a sign'' and 2. alone just you and God. What is the long-term effect of what He said ''edifies himself'' ? I am convinced, beyond your on-command spiritual prayer life, you will also begin to join in with Him in a burdensome and inaudible ''intercession'' (Rom 8:26).

Now I don't discount any personal experience that may differ from mine, the Father might have known to work many things out differently for you. For me, I received the gift very briefly as the minister's assistant whom laid hands on me began to make a loud, almost proud celebration of my receiving it. But along with that brief encounter, I'll never forget only this, walked away from the altar flat-footed but within an elevated suspension in very sure and quiet peace. June 1st, 1986. Praise the Lord on high!!!

1 Corinthians 12:29-31
29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

We don't see true healers today, only the charlatans on TV allegedly lengthening shorter legs when pulling the shoe slightly off to give that appearance...parlor tricks. Nobody is out there raising the verified dead, although there are claims of such. Nobody is restoring missing limbs, although there are lots of claims for such. Nobody is even attempting to empty out even one hospital of the infirmed because no man walking this earth can do so, nor any of those other things. It's all a lie because that's not God's chosen dealings with the body of Christ in this dispensation of grace.

I was married to a charismatic, whose life death took during COVID, and all her charismatic family and friends could do nothing for her as she slowly slipped away in death. What they claimed in the depths of their powerlessness is claim, "Well, it was just her time to go..." The sickeningly false teachings within charismaticism are pathetic lies.

Does the Lord at times work miracles on His own within individual lives? Yes. But this claim made by those superstars in books, TV, magazines, radio, et al, they are fake and phony, every one of them! Wigglesworth was just as bad, as is Copeland, Hinn, Bent Todley and all other vermin like them throughout the history within this Dispensation of Grace.

The Lord is true. Mankind is a liar.
