The Biblical Basis of the
Doctrine of the Trinity:
An Outline Study
By Robert M. Bowman, Jr.
http://www.apologetics.com/
Introduction
It is often alleged that the doctrine of the Trinity is not a biblical doctrine. While the word Trinity
is not in the Bible, the substance of the doctrine is definitely biblical.
The following outline study presents an overview of the biblical basis of the doctrine of the
Trinity. Comments on the texts have been kept to a bare minimum; the emphasis is on the many
biblical texts themselves (about 700 references are listed, including references from 26 of the 27
books of the New Testament).
An exposition of many of the texts discussed here can be found in the author's book Why You
Should Believe in the Trinity (Grand Rapids: Baker Book House, 1989). Unfortunately, it is
currently out of print, but you may be able to locate a copy through Amazon.com's out-of-print
service.
Aproper evaluation of the biblical evidence for the doctrine of the Trinity will depend on the
faithful application of sound principles of biblical interpretation. Here I will mention just two
principles which, if followed, would prevent almost all interpretive errors on this subject.
The first is to interpret the implicit in light of the explicit. That is, texts that explicitly state that
such-and-such is true are to govern our understanding of passages that do not address the issue
directly.

That document from Bowman is really great thanks! Pretty much what I have been typing also. When it is said the Father is not the Son, and the Holy Spirit is not the Father-- I get what they mean.. but it gets a bit more interesting if the 3 are one being.. the Triune God.

In that sense, it looks to me like they are each-other in some sense. I guess that's the same essence/substance though, rather than being each-other. Like my mind is not my body and my body isn't my spirit.. but that's still one being.

When you've grown, does your Father still possess authority over you? It seems I'm read philosophical commentary somewhere or other, that I agree with, the relationship of parents/children changes at some point to a more peer(like?) understanding.
The parental relationship doesn’t change, or isn’t supposed to change, as we age. We’re commanded to give honor to our parents so we owe them deference.

Exodus 20
12“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

Additionally, if our father and mother were a king or a queen, though we be their children, it certainty wouldn’t be peer like in nature. How much more so with Lord God Almighty our Heavenly Father? It’s not like we’re crackin’ jokes with Yahweh as His subjects unless He prompted a joke first. At least I don’t think we should, but to each to their own judgement on that I guess.

Jesus' equality with the Father and pre-existence:

(John 17:4) I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
(John 17:5) And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Yes, and God the Father had said: "And I will not give My glory to another." (Isa 48:11b). So if God the Father glorified Jesus, then it is obvious Jesus is not another Being, but because He is one God with Him; not an angel, nor a human being, but God the Son or God the Word (Logos). Jesus and the Father are Consubstantial, just like Jesus and His Spirit are Consubstantial. In other words, they are One Being, or the Same Nature. Not the same Person, but the 3 Persons inseparably are One Being.

And Isa 43:11 says: "I, even I, am the LORD, And besides Me there is no Savior." And so God alone is our Savior. Hence, if someone is our Savior, He is God, and if someone He is God, He is our Savior. The NT calls Jesus our Savior over and over. Hence, it is clear that Jesus is God. Jesus is God our Savior. That's who He is.

God Bless.

The Lord grew up from infant to man.. going up to learn of His Father.. at the temple.

Remember Heavenly Father gave the spirit without measure to His Son. They are one.. but separate.

The Lord said upon the cross, Eli, Eli Why have you forsaken me.. Eli which is to say My GOD..

The mortal vessel the Lord came in was of Mary and GOD’s miraculous ways. A special vessel to be our Saviour. The spirit of GOD.

There is no secret question one must answer correctly to pass go and be allowed to eat of the Tree of Life. You Believe in the Lord to be saved. John 3:16

Believing Jesus is God and Savior is an essential doctrine, not a peripheral one or an open question.

See what Jesus said about that: "I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins.” (Jn 8:24)

Virtually all Christian denominations agree. I pray for those confused on this matter, that God may give them the Grace to see the Truth, and they may accept it. It's Jews and Muslims, and JWs, who keep insisting Christ is just a man/angel/creature and not the Lord God Himself.

Christ is God: "while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ" (Tit 2:13). If you believe in the Second Coming, please, before it comes, meditate on this verse. As shown earlier, only God can be the Savior. And here it clearly says Jesus Christ will appear in Glory as Our Great God and Our Savior. See, He is God.

In 1 Corinthians 1, Paul makes a distinction between God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul gave credit to God the Father that people are in Jesus Christ

1 Cor. 1
3Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

28God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29so that no one may boast before him. 30It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

In Matthew 14, Jesus’ miracle power came from heaven when he divided the loaves. Additionally, after the walking on water miracle, the disciples worshipped Jesus as the Son of God.

Matt. 14
19And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.

33Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

In Matthew 17, Jesus was transfigured upon the mountain where Jesus stood with other prophets as God Himself appeared in a cloud and identified Jesus as His Son.

Matt. 17
2There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.

5While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

What Is the Third Eye?
The third eye, also known as Ajna chakra, is an invisible eye usually located on the forehead. It's power is to boost perception of things that can't be seen by your eyes. This mystical eye is part of what is called "the subtle body," which means that while it can't be seen, it's considered an important force in governing how prana (energy) moves within the body. It is one of the seven chakras in Hindu tradition."

It sounds demonic or dark. It sounds like something that takes over your persuasion-of-thought. This force (third eye) would have to get into your mind and induces its own will. You even call it a "force". There is only one force that any human should allow to invade the mind and that is Holy Spirit. It is the greatest force on earth above all others. The teachings of the chakras is forbidden knowledge from a pantheon of gods during the Egyptian (Timbuktu, Alexandria) rulership era and passed to the Asians called hidden knowledge. Today, the Tibetan Monks who are called "The Hidden Elects" have been dispersing this forbidden knowledge throughout the ages. This method can only be reached through meditation processes or an idle mind. I would be very careful trying to evoke or practice something that you really don't understand its origin or purpose. It sounds mystical, fancy and even eclectic. However, its not used to get closer to the True God. So...

Okay.. so why mention the third eye for yourself?

If it's got nought to do with christianity and has this dark background.. why mention it?

You yourself were typing about using the third eye as a kind of spiritual source.. very similar to what is mentioned in the definition posted up.

Please explain.

I was speaking about an organ in the brain called the Pineal Gland. It has been discovered to give off a hormone that is released during near death experience. It has a lot of connection to supernatural experiences. Sorry if I mislead you about using the "3rd Eye". You are correct there really isn't enough information on what it does inside our brains to even mention it.

This is what satan does.He twists the things of God and draws people away from the truth.I don't know much about the pineal gland, but I know what when my mind is focused is on God to the point it's all I can think about on days on end,I'd start to feel light headed and exausted.Physically even. And that has to do with the chemicals released in my brain.Jesus is the head of the church and God has created our bodies this way for his purpose.
I'd never read up on new age stuff like chakras.Just keep your mind on the things of God and let him work.

The thing with New Age is it has so much stuff in it. It can be overtly satanistic and then also semi-christian.. with christians using New Age type meditation. It can also combine heaps of different beliefs together like Bahai. Books written from gurus are used where the gurus contradict eachother.

Yeah.. so stay away.

Hebrews 1

Good News Translation

God's Word through His Son
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors many times and in many ways through the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us through his Son. He is the one through whom God created the universe, the one whom God has chosen to possess all things at the end. 3 He reflects the brightness of God's glory and is the exact likeness of God's own being, sustaining the universe with his powerful word. After achieving forgiveness for the sins of all human beings, he sat down in heaven at the right side of God, the Supreme Power.
The Greatness of God's Son
4 The Son was made greater than the angels, just as the name that God gave him is greater than theirs. 5 For God never said to any of his angels,
“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father.”
Nor did God say about any angel,
“I will be his Father,
and he will be my Son.”
6 But when God was about to send his first-born Son into the world, he said,
“All of God's angels must worship him.”
7 But about the angels God said,
“God makes his angels winds,
and his servants flames of fire.”
8 About the Son, however, God said:
“Your kingdom, O God, will last[a] forever and ever!
You rule over your[b] people with justice.
9 You love what is right and hate what is wrong.
That is why God, your God, has chosen you
and has given you the joy of an honor far greater
than he gave to your companions.”
10 He also said,
“You, Lord, in the beginning created the earth,
and with your own hands you made the heavens.
11 They will disappear, but you will remain;
they will all wear out like clothes.
12 You will fold them up like a coat,
and they will be changed like clothes.
But you are always the same,
and your life never ends.”
13 God never said to any of his angels:
“Sit here at my right side
until I put your enemies
as a footstool under your feet.”

14 What are the angels, then? They are spirits who serve God and are sent by him to help those who are to receive salvation.
Gal 4: 14 And my trial, which was in my flesh, ye despised not, nor rejected, but received me as an ANGEL of God, even (that is) as Christ Jesus.

Jesus is God is obvious in Scripture. If only people read. Also do you think newer translations remove Christ as God?
I heard of a Bible publisher that deleted the reference to Jesus as son of God because that title offends Muslims.

Jesus said, when you have seen me you have seen the father.
And, I and the father are one.

Jesus, Immanuel=God with us.

I just realized that it sounds like I'm talking about meditation.I'm not.I'm just saying that when my mind is nothing but for God,the pineal gland will release chemicals in my brain and it can take a toll on my mind and body. There's nothing to learn from what new agers say on the pineal gland.
