4 They were all filled with the Ruach ha-Kodesh and began to speak in other tongues as the Ruach enabled them to speak out.

this Verse plainly shows when they were filled with the Holy Spirit they began Speaking in Tongues.

just to also point out, this is from the earliest known Greek Text still in existence. so what is said in this Verse is as FACTUAL and AUTHENTIC as it gets!

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Ruach ha-Kodesh fell on all those hearing the message.
45 All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were astonished, because the gift of the Ruach ha-Kodesh had been poured out even on the Gentiles.
46 For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and magnifying God.

these Gentiles heard Peter preach, they Holy Spirit filled them, they began Speaking in Tongues.

that is TWO Passages of Scripture showing WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT FELL ON/FILLED PEOPLE THEY BEGAN SPEAKING IN TONGUES!

here is a THIRD EXAMPLE:

5 When they heard this, they were immersed in the name of the Lord Yeshua.
6 And when Paul laid hands upon them, the Ruach ha-Kodesh came upon them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying

again, the Holy Spirit fell on them, came upon them, filled them and they BEGAN Speaking in Tongues.

so we have THREE Examples found in the Holy Bible when people are filled with the Holy Spirit they BEGIN to Speak in Tongues.


i think THREE Examples is solid proof of Evidence!

It is the PROMISE of the FATHER = nothing to fear = everything to embrace

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow.
He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we would be a kind of firstfruits of His creation.

I have a questions about speaking in tongues if i may, Please let me know what you think or know if you have witnessed or if it happened to you.

the first question is about when someone speaks in tongues, do people hearing this sometimes know what language is spoken and what is said?

I have always wondered about this since i am not part of any church.

Best place to start is from God's Mouth to your ears, heart and mind.

Read and Pray as you read, the Gospel of John.
When you finish reading Gospel of John then pray and read Acts.

Believe God at His word and pray it back to Him.

It is solid proof that it happened on those three occasions.
You still have shown no scripture that says that EVERY one that receives the Spirit MUST show it by speaking in tongues.
That is what you folks are saying, and I am asking for scripture that SAYS that.

I have provided scriptures that say that, to receive the Spirit, you don't need a laying on of hands, you simply repent, and get baptized into the name of Jesus, and you WILL receive the Spirit.

I also provided scriptures that show that ALL gifts are not given to ALL believers. The Spirit determines what each believer needs, to fulfill his role in the Body of Christ.... the church.

You have provided scriptures (and I have, as well) that show that on SOME occasions, the laying on of hands was done, along with baptism, and it allowed the passing on of the Spirit. And there are SOME occasions where the evidence of the indwelling Spirit was shown with the sign of speaking in tongues. There was also one occasion mentioned of people receiving the Spirit before baptism.... does that make it the "norm" ? Of course not.

The only conclusion an honest person could come to is that not EVERYONE is supposed to speak in tongues. In fact, scripture tells us that it is not even the most desirable gift to wish for. We should pray for the gift of prophecy.

Hanging your whole spiritual existence on speaking in tongues is a waste of time, and actually borders on idolatry. Telling others that because YOU speak in tongues, they must also, is false doctrine.
How about teaching the story of Jesus, and his love for us, and how we should love and care for others, and let the gifts that the Spirit decides YOU need just happen. Turning a spiritual gift into some kind of secret handshake/password/rite of passage is missing the boat, and shows spiritual immaturity, IMO.

This is one of "you folks" that ISN'T saying you "have to", never have, never will, it is available to all, just as salvation, though many choose to avoid it.

All may not speak in other tongues but God WISHES that they all would.

"I would that ye did all speak in tongues"

Since Jesus suffered and died horribly that we might receive it, it should be something we obediently desire to receive, just as salvation, though many reject His free blessing.

Good grief... I said I wasn't going to say anymore, but I need to address these notions.

My story, which I've told before, in previous "tongues" discussions is that about 40 years ago, I met a group of folks that were going about the country, preaching and reaching out, mostly to young folks. I was a young person then... well, young-ER.... mid 20's....
They strongly taught speaking in tongues. I had heard of it, being brought up in the church, baptized at 11, father was an elder in the church, went to a Christian school... etc...
After attending some of their worship sessions, I was convinced that I was somehow missing something, as I did not speak in tongues. We had several discussions, and I was convinced that I simply had to fully give in and accept it, pray for it earnestly, etc. We even had two sessions of 8-10 of them surrounding me and laying hands on me.... I WANTED to have that gift....
I didn't receive it. Never. They even said I need to just open my mouth and start making noises, and it would just "flow".... Didn't happen.
After a few weeks of serious prayer and meditation on the subject, I came to the conclusion that either I was "unworthy" or that just perhaps, the Spirit decided I didn't need that gift. Over the past 40 or so years of reading, studying, praying, I've come to the conclusions that I have put forth in this (and other) threads.

So.... don't try to tell me that I WILL speak in tongues, if I just pray for it, and want it bad enough.
If the Spirit decides I NEED that gift, He will give it to me.... and I will NOT have that gift before that happens.... if it ever does.

When I pray to God, I KNOW that the Spirit is also interceding in my behalf, using words that I just don't have. That is good enough for me... I've seen prayers answered, not always the way I was asking, but always for the best. That is the work of the Spirit...

You agree that the scriptures referenced give solid proof that speaking in tongues accompanied the indwelling presence of God in those cases. Consider as well the experience was the result of people BELIEVING the God ordained message and taking corresponding action.

Scripture confirms that God establishes truth concerning various topics by providing 2-3 scriptures that say the same thing. (Matt. 18:16, 2 Cor. 13:1-4) The accounts showing speaking in tongues accompanied the indwelling by the Holy Ghost meet this requirement.

Your story sounds a lot like mine. Unfortunately, a lot of people are terribly confused about the whole tongues thing.

Indeed they are.. Many people think the Holy Spirit will possess them and somehow make them speak in tongues. And when it doesn't happen, they conclude the gift is not for them.

Those very many who obediently walk in this precious and powerful gift are not confused.
It isn't something "WE" do, we give Him control of our tongue, i'm not talking about the public use, I don't find myself in those places, but rather the personal, private, Divine prayer language He freely gives to His own and encourages us practice.

There is more to the Holy Spirit then tongues .

Joh_14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Having been part of the Pentecostal movement all my 75 years, there are fakes, there are real believers just as in any group of folks. As a balance to those who are totally anti tongues..

1Co 14:38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
1Co 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
1Co 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
