What's a civil standard? Husband = male as far as I'm concerned, as it did in biblical times.
I cannot believe this.
this is why God establish the HOUSE/the HOME first in order for us to learn Civilly before coming to church, his House.
1 Timothy 3:15 "But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth."

being a husband has nothing to do with being a BISHOP, unlese one is in Polygamy, or just shaking up. the standard is if you're married, have only ONE WIFE

if one just READ, not all Husband have children either. (now or later). my God how blind can one be?

Now, lets dig into the qualification of a "BISHOP", meaning BIBLICAL qualification.
1 Timothy 3:1 "This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work."
1 Timothy 3:2 "A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;"
1 Timothy 3:3 "Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;"
1 Timothy 3:4 "One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;"
1 Timothy 3:5 "(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)"
1 Timothy 3:6 "Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil."
1 Timothy 3:7 "Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil."

the only biblical qualification for a bishop is in verse 2, "apt to teach;". the rest of the qualification, is social, or civil in nature.
APT to Teach,
Apt, 1 Fit; suitable, 2. Having a tendency. 3. Inclined. 4. Ready; quick; used of the mental powers; as, a pupil apt to learn; an opt wit.
5. Qualified; fit.

so clearly, the only ecclesiastical or biracial qualification for a bishop is to be FIT to TEACH. the rest are social qualifications.

so the qualification for a Bishop is to TEACH, well what? answer, Acts 20:28 "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood."
FEED the FLOCK of GOD, where has we heard this before? answer, Jeremiah 3:15 "And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding."

there it is plain as day. when one is guide by the Holy Ghost, one then can see clearly,

now my source for "APT", the definition, is the Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary of American English

Gods Words Are Very Clear On A Womans Role In The Church, And They Aren't Changing Anytime Soon.

Silence, Subjection, Obedience

1 Timothy 2:11-14KJV
11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

1 Corinthians 14:33-35KJV
33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.
35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

2 Timothy 3:-3-5KJV
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

The Lord God knows our hearts. To those whose hearts belong to Him He will reveal the true meaning of scripture. If anyone would truly understand then they must pray and seek earnestly the will of God as revealed in scripture. Arguing like this is not necessary and is forbidden by God Himself.
Nicely put. Now, what do we do when we whose hearts DO belong to God differ in our conclusions? Who among us gets to dictate "the true meaning" to others?

I agree, arguing is not necessary. So one does well to ensure that one's own contributions are not demeaning, derogatory, or dismissive.

I haven't yet found a complementarian here who can abide by that standard.

"Properly following" your posts? Who are you, the pope? Read the first page of the thread; I've been around this a bit longer than you, and I'm well aware of the relevant passages of Scripture. I asked you to quote it, because I know quite well that it doesn't say what you claimed that it said. However, as with most of those who decry female leadership, you are apparently quite willing to claim "synonymous meaning" when convenient for you, and ignore or reject important context because it doesn't support your interpretation.
I didnt claim it said anything. I merely provided the chapter and verse to refer to.

now, back to the qualification for "BISHOP", I have made the statement, "the ONLY BIBLICAL qualification for a bishop is "APT, or Fit to TEACH".

now if someone has any other BIBLICAL, BIBLICAL qualification for a BISHOP, I did not say a BIBLICAL qualification for a Christian, but for the BISHOP.

if so please list them from this list found in 1 Timothy 3.

so lets discuss the scriptures.

Any woman can fully serve the Lord. She does not need to acquire the role of pastor. The Bible clearly says that a woman should not take such a position.
Hmmm.... Would you care to modify your statement?

Well Dino, I am a little bit longer on CC then you, if you find it important to mentioned it for to explain why you know the word of God better, then someone New.
There are many threats about this issue on CC and till now there is no one who could sattisfy/convince the "one" from the other side.
The thing is for to claim that a woman can be Pastor you have to ignore scripture which says woman cant. In the same time you cant prepare scripture which says that woman can.
All time then you have to explain ore discuss away ore coming with different meanings in the greec language for to find a minimal hint that it can be that woman can.
The almost all of this thoughts are man wisdom.
And because the timespirit teaches woman can, the most will follow them.
You can do this, but this is not that what the word of God teaches and was practised in the time of Paul.

Now that God has your attention. do what the scriptures states, 2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Look up words and their meaning, and then search them out. find out what the author of the Letter had intended to say, and after all else.... Go to God and ask him for revelation of all that you have studied and set with him on your study. and if he approves then there is nothing else to be said.

Proverbs 25:2 "It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter."

this is what separate a disciple from a disciple indeed.

Following the teaching of Paul in 1 Cor we must always ask ourselves... "what builds up the body of Christ?" The gifts of the Spirit that operate in the members seeks to build up the body of Christ. If an interpretation attempts to pull down a member who is building up the body of Christ we can know that it is a bad hermeneutic.
Your question was.............
""what builds up the body of Christ?"

Easy.......accepting and following the directions found in the Word of God!!!!!!

First thanks for the reply, second, I'm not debating anyone. I simply believe the scriptures, and not a man's interpertation of them. it just amaze me to see how people reading the same words, and without researching, and applying bibical concepts, arrive at different understanding.
it is clear that what we in the west calls offices is actually a work, which God do through his body. and this work is manifested in his Spiritual "Gifts". and it is clear, the first Gift listed in 1 Corinthians 12:8, is the Pastoral Gifts, "For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;". and God's gifts are of no respect of person.

and if the members of his body is neither male and female, then one would know that it is God who ordains in his Chursh, and not men.

PICJAG,

FUNNY!!!!!! LOL funny.

You said.............
" I simply believe the scriptures, and not a man's interpretation of them."

The Scriptures actually and literally say in 1 Timothy 3:1-2................
"This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 2A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

Now if you would care to do this........go and buy the book written by George Orwell called...."1954" and what he called "DOUBLE SPEEK"
then is exactly what YOU just did here.....today!!!!

thanks for the reply, but it is not funny I back up what I believe with KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING of the Scriptures, so if it's funny then rebut anything i have said?....

now you said, "If a man desire the office of a bishop", did the scriptures say if "ONLY" a man desire the office?... now that's funny. when one just don't know the TRUTH, then it's funny... (smile).

It is reading and accepting exactly what is written.
1 Timothy 3:1-2................
"This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 2A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;".

It just is not as hard as it is being portrayed here.

I can tell all of you what is happening.

Those who are rejecting this Scripture are WOMEN who do not want to submit to the Word of God.

The men are those who belong to the Assembly of God denomination and they are only against this Bible directive because their denomination has been ordaining women for years and they do not want to be accused of not standing behind their church affiliation.

Now, most will not accept that but that is the reason.

The only other reason is that they are openly....rejecting the Word of God and the ability to hide behind a computer screen which gives them protection and ambiguity.

If not.........now would be the time to say why !!!

I am too old and have had both knees replaced and spinal surgery so I can not play ball anymore.
I used to but not now. Take a look at the team picture of the early 60's Crimson Tide.

Now, I DID NOT SAY ....""If a man desire the office of a bishop",

GOD said that my dear brother! Now since He did not say WOMEN we have to ask....WHY?????

Do you think that He did not know about the word WOMAN? NOW THAT is what is funny!!!!

If.....if God wanted women and men to be ordained as Pastors.....why in the world didn't He just say that?????

that way we would not have to read and follow His directions in 1 Timothy 2:12.........
"I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet."

We could then also completely remove what God said in 1 Corinthians 14:34..........
"Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says."

Now that Bible says in John 17:17 that truth is what God says it is...........
"Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."

Now then......what do YOU say TRUTH is??????

Serve............
