"... the sons are exempt" (see Matthew 17:24-27).

I would strongly encourage you to do more study on the covenants, particularly in Galatians and Hebrews.
That's the Temple tax--not the tithe. Which since you have studied it so much, I assume you know the difference.

I am well aware of the difference. Do you really think Jesus' point was just about the temple tax?

Well, I've only scanned some of the posts on this thread, so maybe someone already said this, but.......

It is absolutely wonderful to give 10% to God! It is so freeing and so fulfilling!(y)

I don't worry about if it's called tithe or support or offering or whatever.......lol! :giggle: I'm so thankful!(y)

It's only been about 1 1/2 years now that I've been giving 10% of my Net paycheck - I don't give the gross because I never get the gross - I give from what I actually receive which is the NET.

I give to "good ground" - organizations/churches that are making it possible for God's Word to be heard and people saved. When I can, I give to others to bless them and help them.

Listen, don't let the "flesh" stop you from blessing the Lord and others.

I've gotten an increase in my income and all my needs continue to be miraculously meet. It feels like I'm paying Daddy rent to live in His house and He takes REALLY good care of me!

Start giving to God with a cheerful heart and see what happens! It's WONDERFUL!(y)

I would strongly say that a person does not need to affiliate themselves with a church.
A direct intimate connection to God my surrendering completely to Him by Him being
in us and we in Him. The Spirit of God is unequivocal , there are no mistakes and no
desire for a third party intervention. In this way we are a new creation in Him.

My wife believes very much in tithing, yes like yourself, 10% of the net. While I believe in support of the church and worthwhile charities I'm not really that big on tithing but concede that the scripture my wife points out to me is probably in support of such a practice. The truth is, the heart of my wife is much more generous and closer to the Lord in regards to giving than mine is or will ever be. God loves a cheerful giver, that is what you are and that is who my wife is. I'm a giver but am lacking on the cheerful aspect of it.

I love your generous heart to give, we should all be so. But what you said at the end 'it feels like your paying rent' is similar to my question.. Are you trust in your giving so that God looks after you as He promised?
Would He stop providing if you stopped giving that 10% each pay check?

Good ground is when the Pastor points every jot and tittle of the Word of God to Calvary. If the Pastor is not doing this, Faith will not come, flesh comes! If the Believer wants to live under the "Open Windows Of Heaven," tithe from your pay check before you pay your bills or buy anything...God demands to be FIRST (Matthew 6:33)!

The cheerful part is a result of sharing the Father’s heart. Do you not rejoice when you see a soul come to Christ? Are you not giving to the church to keep it going to then see such a fruitful turn over? Have you ever given to a homeless person and seen the sincerity of a smile, where they were in a place of bleakness and your act of kindness brought light into their situation?

There is a blessing beyond the reciprocity of giving. It is in righteousness. It is in doing good, sowing love. When you give it is a cheerful thing, because you are partaking in God’s plans. Financing His plans. Reaching lives and blessing lives beyond your labor. It is as if you get to be a gust of wind behind a man’s sails, catapulting them to continue their work for the Lord. Keep the wind going, indeed the work of the Spirit. Be about the Father’s business as your Lord exemplified.

Well spoken and articulated and definitely worth emulating. I do rejoice when a soul comes to Christ but after but having been walking the earth so many years seeing misery, suffering, and injustice, I may be getting insensitive to the cries of pain.

Some people want more than their bare needs met. They want to be equipped for every good work. They want to be blessed to enjoy the blessing (Ecclesiastes 5:19), and to be a blessing. I agree with you about God meeting the believer’s needs irrespective of giving. He is faithful and if He clothes the lilies of the field, He will clothe you. There is a verse that says that they were young and now old and they have never seen the righteous forsaken not their descendants begging for bread (Psalm 37:25).

God will provide, most assuredly. Giving though is an avenue of love and reciprocity. It is living in a Kingdom mindset, where giving is not subtraction (as the world would see it), but actually leads to increase. As you know, sow sparingly reap sparingly, and sow bountifully reap bountifully. Either way, you will reap as you sow.

I see giving and stewardship of one’s finances as a means of greater freedom. Freedom of expression and freedom of experience. The freedom to meet the needs of others, and to focus on God’s plans. Some people just want their needs met, others want to have more than that and it’s okay. Enjoy the fruit of your labor. Certain people have a larger vision, a greater impact in mind.

These are people that want to be financiers of others’ dreams. They want to finance and support ministries and organizations that represent the heart of God. They don’t gain just for the sake of gain, but with purpose. With contribution in mind.

So yes, God will meet our needs and even give us the desires of our hearts. Yet too, does God honor His word and financial blessings associated with sowing and reaping, giving and honoring the Lord with our finances. The cup that over flows. The blessing that falls upon the righteous, the generous.

This isn’t a “prosperity gospel” for there is one prosperous Gospel and that is the giving of God’s Son for humanity, where Jesus is the firstborn of many. No, this is understanding principles, heavenly principles, that when exercised show the faithfulness of God to fulfill His word. This itself may be one of the greatest things on giving, it is a tangible representation of God’s faithfulness. One of the only places in God’s word where He tells people to put Him to the test (of the tithe and offerings). Yet here, we see words associated with giving and what will happen as a result. You can do it and see what happens. This is no more a test than it is to live righteously and it leading to peace. One results in the other. Sowing leads to reaping.

I agree with you 100%. I don't have any issue with giving, in fact, I love giving more than receiving. Perhaps I'm speaking in the forum but I know there is a lot of teaching and people believing out there in order for God to bless you, you must give. That is what I'm addressing, not the giving of itself.

Edit: in the end, God will have you where He wants you, speaking of finances and jobs that provide income, whether that's a cleaner or a CEO. He doesn't require money for souls to hear the gospel. If the cleaner lives a Godly life, those around them will see it. If the CEO lives a Godly life, those around them will see it.

Hello breno785au,

Never did I say I’m trusting in my giving - that’s plain stupid....lol! :giggle::rolleyes:

When I said my 10% financial giving to the Lord is “like paying rent to live in my Father’s house,” I meant it as a huge blessing.....God receives my little 10% or whatever- my widow’s mite, as me blessing and loving Him, NOT to get anything BUT God loves us and receives what we give Him, blesses it and gives back to us.

It’s probably more like a spiritual law circuit flow of blessings......we bless God, He blesses us....it’s a circle. Once you start flowing with God in this circuit, you never want to stop! He’s amazing!!!

It’s like giving God 10 US dollars and then He gives us 10,000 US dollars.....it’s crazy LOVE blessings!(y)

When Abraham met Melchisedec, King of Salem, on the road after the victory he had experienced over five kings, he gave Melchisedec tithes of all he had. Have you ever wondered why he did so? The answer is found in what Melchisedec brought to the meeting (Genesis 14:18-20). He brought the bread and the wine, which pointed ahead to the coming Christ who would give His body and blood for the sins of humanity as the Lamb of God. Abraham gave tithes of all he had because he recognized the minister of Righteousness, the minister who represented and pointed to the Lord Jesus Christ. The same happens today when God’s people recognize and have their faith in Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Liberality in their giving is not a problem, but rather a desire and joy!

Pastor Curtis

Glory be to God! My Spirit flips when Truth and Righteousness is preached in its Righteous context - pointing every word (jot and tittle) to Calvary! Amen

None of which compels the Christian to follow Old Covenant requirements. Following the Law in joy is still following the Law, and if you are following the Law, you are not following Christ.

I calculated that I give about 7.5% of net after deductions (healthcare, 401k, etc.) to my church. One day I do hope to give much more comfortably, in a cheerful manner. I think if you are not cheerful about giving more, you shouldn't; my pastor said that God doesn't want that money. However, my pastor and church leadership really push tithing and 10%, given that they come from Baptist background. I think we should move away from the term tithing, but maybe people won't give as much otherwise. My church is over 100 years old but small (about 100 people attend on Sundays including families), we have a moderate reserve fund but we really need funds coming in if we want to keep the church running long-term.

The key with tithing is that it must be in good ground. Therefore, you test the ground by: is the Pastor pointing every word (jot and tittle) to Calvary where the victory was won. If the Pastor is not doing so, it is another Jesus.

The principle still applies. God seeks those who worship in Spirit and in truth. If God thought it was a good idea for the church members to support the church by laying up once a week for a collection 1 Cor 16 The percentage is not mentioned, instead it says Giving as God has Prospered him 1 Cor 16 (a portion in proportion to how God has prospered him). So that does sound similar to a tithe, but tithe is not mentioned because any portion given in faith and from a cheerful heart is accepted, howbeit AS GOD HAS PROSPERED him does seem to suggest a portion that matches the level of blessing received. A tithe is a good and biblical measure to use without it being a law.

God seeks those who worship in Spirit and in truth.
This can only be done if the Believer place and maintain their Faith exclusively in Christ and Him Crucified (The Blood of Jesus). Rom. 8:2

So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine. Proverbs 3:10
