You can do things with a revolver you can't do with a pistol, making wax bullet cartridges fired by the primer is one, the primer flash hole needs to be enlarged a little so the primer will not back out and hang up the action, they always do but the recoil on an average load is always sufficient to reset it. Mark those cases so they never get reloaded to regular power.
I have owned a Savage Model 110 chambered for .223 for many years. It has a heavy fluted barrel and laminated stock. I fit it with a Tasco variable scope and installed a bench follower to convert t to a single shot. It is extremely accurate and the .223 is relatively cheap to shoot. I consistently get 1" patterns at 200 yards. I recommend it to anyone.

With the 357 it is the case length, I spoke with a S&W factory rep about how the 38 model 10 seemed the same as the following series revolvers in 357, he related it was the cylinder length that was increased to allow 357, otherwise they were equal.
I think there is a difference in 223 and 5.56. as well, and yes there is a difference in the pressure.

At one time I had the Ruger Vaquero .44 Mag in stainless to which I added faux pearl grips along with a proper western rig. It was purchased solely as a side arm for horseback where a semi-auto could actually be more dangerous to both rider and horse (think along the lines of firing a round and having the horse buck). Outside of that setting I much prefer the capacity (and ability to rapid fire if necessary) of a semi-auto.

38 is about an 8th of am inch shorter than 357, so a 38 cal firearm will not chamber a 357. However it does work you can fire 38 in a 357. However you are correct about chamber pressures. It is possible by not likely that a 556 could damage a firearm rated for 223. However now you have 223 wyled which is rated along with 556.
