Just so you don't think that I am ignoring your advice, shittim: I have to find some better sound equipment and some privacy to get the message. For some reason He isn't coming through very well on my computer's sound system, and people are always popping in and out of the office, anyway. My laptop at home can't play the video at all--it has obsolete software. I'll have to see if I can borrow my sister's tablet, so it may be Monday before I can hear it. did you want me to just see the part after where it was cued up to, or should I watch the whole thing?

I'm not the teacher, Holy Spirit is the teacher, I am pointing you to the best teacher I know who instructs from the Bible.
The part I cued you to explains how if you, I or anyone is not experiencing God the way the way the Bible teaches the problem is not on His end, and that doesn't mean it is your fault, my fault, anyone's fault. it is our responsibility to seek His truth and receive His restoration.

If I experience a flat tire, that most likely isn't my fault, It is my flat tire and I am accountable for getting it fixed. I don't go to a person who talks about fixing it, I go to a person whos is capable of repairing it, Holy Spirit guides us in ALL truth as He only speaks what the Father tells Him to speak, He is your source, not me.

The problem is that I am never sure whether what I "hear" is the Holy Spirit, my own wishful thinking, or the lies of the evil one. I have had my pastor in a Spirit filled church tell me to never trust that "still, small voice".

Holy spirit gives confirmation, and it lines up with Galatians 5 attributes.
You seem to give way too much credence to what people say and not Holy Spirit guidance, everything we take in is to be taken to the Lord for confirmation.

Shittim, could you please unpack this a little? I.e., the Holy Spirit gives confirmation of what? And how does He do that? And how does "it" line up with Galations 5?

This just goes to show that it can be hazardous to have others assess your spiritual condition.

Take Job's so-called friends as an example. They all concluded that Job had sinned grievously therefore he was being punished. And they were completely mistaken. Even Elihu condemned Job. But God did not.

So you need to commune with the Lord about your spiritual condition and see that all He expects is that you love God with all your heart, and love others by not harming them but helping them and doing good to them. And not "make provision for the flesh" and its lusts.

The words 'confidence' and 'assurance' are not "feeling words" - they are based on knowledge and understanding - not 'feeling' or 'emotion'.

Having a knowledge and understanding of what God says - plus belief and faith - cultivates confidence and assurance - because, God does not lie.

To be legitimate in matters of faith, anything that is 'feeling' or 'emotion' is a by-product; in 'cause and effect' terms, it is always 'effect' and never 'cause'. If it is made to be 'cause', it becomes very dangerous.

You don't 'feel' belief and faith - you 'think' it, 'will' it, and 'know' it.

I pray for Bible translators. If a Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek word means one thing, then why translate it to a word that means something different? Why not use the word or phrase that best conveys the true meaning of the author's intent? Especially since we are talking about the Word of God? Talk about stepping out in front of an 18 wheeler! I know that there is a lot of debate about meanings in languages that are not truly spoken anymore, but some of the mistranslations that I have butted up against are pretty egregious.

Alright, shittim! John Wimber! I spent a lot of time in a Vineyard Christian Fellowship. Didn't get a lot of help, though: I might as well have been speaking Trobriand Islander to my pastor about my problems.

Maybe you were or perhaps still are too focused on your own issues, Chriost modeled how we are to live, He was focused out all the time, this was mentioned earlier in this thread, the best way to get healing is to give healing, the best way to receive restoration is to give restoration.
This whole thread you began is about "you and your problems", getting the focus off ourselves allows Him in.

I try to practice the fruit of the Holy Spirit in my daily life, with varying degrees of success, and that requires focusing on others. It is pretty much impossible to honestly offer others healing, when you are virtually certain that the Holy Spirit isn't with you. It is hard to tell someone honestly that God will never leave them or forsake them if you are nine tenths convinced that Jesus rejected you from the get go. It is hard to encourage hope and joy when you are almost too depressed to stand up. Even the physical help that I can give is limited, because I am the guy who can't do anything right.
When I was talking with my pastor, I was focused on my problems, because that's why I went to see him.
When I joined Christian Chat, it was in the hope of gaining new and understandable information that would help throw off the burden of doubt and fear. I don't honestly know what I can offer in return.
