I think it depends on, what Bible is used.

Mark 8:34
KJV: "And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him DENY HIMSELF, and take up his cross, and follow me. "
NLV: Jesus called the people and His followers to Him. He said to them, “If anyone wants to be My follower, he must GIVE UP HIMSELF and his own desires. He must take up his cross and follow Me.

For me "give up" is easier to understand how to follow than "deny".

Maybe someone has more to say to this difference in the Bible versions :)

Proverbs 6:16-19
These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren. (Anybody else see themselves on that list)😔

Simple. KJV is an archaic language translation. NLT is modern language.
Same message, just centuries of change in language from one to the other.

Currently I live in Poland. I found the chat/forum to meet inspiring people.

No, I don't see myself as a lier. I just tried joking with a person's comment :)

Ok :)

Do you mean, they denying 400 years ago, meant the same as giving up does today?

Right. Because languages evolve. Old English is an obsolete language

Eh 🙄 Isn't Jesus God in trinity?
O yes, sorry, I believed in A G_d, but didn’t know Jesus, or that He was actually G_d in the flesh-also had virtually no idea about The Holy Spirit either, ie. that He could be grieved or quenched. (Until He left). I guess I thought He was ever merciful (and had been) to that point.
