I was the barricaded subject that stood off a swat team for about 6 hours one time!
It was my day off, Saturday I guess. My wife got up early and went to work. Kids were off school and we were getting, drinking coffee, eating. And my two kids got into a fight. Well I didn't stop the fight because, that's how I learned to stay out of big brothers stuff. SO I let them fight because the mama was at work.
Well the sliding glass door out to the patio & back yard was open this fine Summer morning. And when the kids realized I wasn't breaking it up, they got louder. I thought it was kind of funny. Then they stopped fighting as became friends again, as kids will do! No big deal, they had a fight, it's over. Then came the knock knock knock. It was the Police but I seen them before they seen me, and I shushed the kids and we all went upstairs to quietly play some chess. I knew why the cops were there, all the yelling and screaming it wasnt hard to understand what was going on. So those cops stood outside banging on the door and screaming my name to open up the door for the Police Dept.!
It was just a kids fight. It's my day off. I don't want cops in my house. Let's just play some chess until they go away. So we did. I played each one of my boys a game of chess and it had gotten quiet outside. So I creep over and peek out the window to see if they are gone yet and the police car that was in my driveway was not in my driveway any more. Instead it was 1/2 way up the street with other police vehicles.
The reason they did this was mostly (I didn't know this part) because a couple years before I moved into this house, a man had stabbed his wife there, so it was a Hot address. So the Police thought they find my wife's body inside or something. And suddenly there was the swat team. Now I've always been a gun owner and reloader I knew that I would have to deal with them. They would want to go through all room to make sure no one is hurt there that needs help. I didnt have a problem with that but I knew they wasn't going to like my gun collection. What made me think that they would Not take my guns? I didnt stab my wife, but he has all those guns! He must be guilty of something. I had called my wife at work when I realized swat was outside and they already had my phone tapped so heard it all when I called her somewhere else and told her swat has me surrounded and the kids had a loud fight. So she comes home from work and can't even get close before cops stop her and they tried to tell her to leave and she bull dogged right through up to the capt or Lt or whatever and when he turned around and sw her, he already knew it was the so called victim! Lol Not even there. So I talked to them on/off for several more hours on the phone and to be honest their negotiator did not impress me. He let me gain control of the communication. I'd start talking like I was more upset and raising my voiice at them. I dont want to die today, I'll defend myself!!!
Ed let's take a break to calm down and I'll call back... Ok. Hang up and start to hide a few guns. I knew I couldn't hide them all because bullet making stuff is all over the house, lol. Presses in one romm. Brass everywhere. It's my hobby and so it gets everywhere I cant hide a reloading room. The dipstik negotiator didn't ask me to send my kids out! I told him can you guys stand down to let me send my kids out so they dont get shot?! And so we did that and I hadda get mad a couple more times to buy time to hide guns in the hardest places to get to in the house! then they'd start ringing my phone and I finally got all of them hidden and did leave them enough out to justify a house full of gun stuff. So they will grab what's easy and stop searching. And I was right! I came out and they took me into custody though I dunno why, they know it was a mix up and kids were fighting, no one hurt. But Noooo we can't let our Citizens act like they have a right to life. We'll find something wrong. Just so they could seize my guns. The cops asked the kids what happened me and him had a fight and then we played chess with dad...Kind of anti climatic for a swat team visit lol. It took me two years to get my guns back. The first thing I did was have my lawyer file a preservation of evidence order and got a Judges signature on it. I know how those cops are.
Two years later and 3 or 4 court appearances and I won because there wasnt any crime committed! So I called the evidence facility and asked when can I come and pick up my property?
Please hold...that property was slated for destruction aproxx 3 months ago, it's gone!
Oh Officer please check again because I need to be sure because I am holding a preservation of property that was signed by a Judge, so if what you say is true then you all owe ne a lot of money....

So I got it all back except for a box of Federal Hydra-Shok 45's (I had 3 boxes, 2 came home) and a family heirloom of a set of handmade Brass Knuckles he said his Grandpa made them and used to carry them into the beer joints back in the 40's! And those cops kept those brass knuckles! Thieves. They was in the night stand of my bed. I don't carry brass knuckles, I carry a pistol, geez.

Not to derail the conversation but if the part costs "x" why not just charge "x" for it?
That's right. After awhile I realized that one doesnt have to lie but if you dont want to lie then you have to be quick and smart in your speech. If an Officer asked me a sensitive question that I don't want to answer, I could say, well I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you Lol! And injecting some slight humor to dodge answering the real question so you dont have to lie. If he persisted I could claim Family Scurity issues, I can take your question before the board and someone will get back to you...
It's hard to be quick witted with Cops without arousing more suspicion. Talk like a lawyer. The cop says a question, I plead the 5th. And did you...I plead the 5th. I don't answer questions. What's your name? Freda. Fread what? Freda Go. Freeda go? Thank you Officer (drives away...)
That's the question that comes up from Customers. The reason for a cost x sold for Y is because it takes money to pay for the part of front and have it with me.
Or, if I don't have the right part then I have to go get one, and that takes time and gas and insurance and all that stuff.
Then they ask this question, can you discount the labor?
So it's hard to make money fixing furnaces because parts are expensive and you almost can't discount the parts so any discount would have to come straight from the labor.
Now the rule was (it's good to be the boss!) If I walk into her house and it's cold in there, and I can tell they can't afford it, but they need heat. I'll give them a discount if I can still make some money. I started making a service call charge for $25. Then I could easily not write in a Service Call and so she gets her discount but the Labor is untouched. My kids need shoes and a bike too, lol.
It's a balancing act of money, enough of a discount so they can have heat and many times I gave them 10% off parts and still had enough togive to the wife for our frigerators and so forth.
One guy, I fixed his Boiler. He had a bad zone valve and I had to go get one but it was in stock. So I told him the price of it sitting in my truck. Do I go get it? Yes fix the Boiler. So I did, went and bought one and installed it, and everything was fine and he was happy when I left. Later when I was back at the shop he called me up and was yelling that I ripped him off. He said he got the box and looked up those valves and found out that he could order one for about 1/2 price of what I charged for the zone valve. But it would have to be shipped to him. The supply houses mark them up too so guys like me can come get what we need today with no waiting. I sold that zone valve to this man for list price. I had to fax him a copy of the receipt to show that I paid what he paid. I gave him their phone number. He called them, how much is this Bell & Howell zone valve? They always say, who am I talking to? A customer? Then they quote list price to them. List price wasn't much higher than the wholesale cost so he still didnt like it and wanted a refund of the part down to what his price would be to order one. So I said, well we can install your parts. When you have a problem, the technician can give you all the information on what you need and then call us back to come install it.
You wouldn't come the same day? And you havent even ordered the part yet? How's that work? And he knew he was not ripped off.
But dangit, people try everything to get it done for next to nothing. Oh they want us to be prepared. They want us to be educated and sharp techs. They want us to be insured. And now they want a discount! It can be rough sometimes!
Cops are trying to close as many criminal cases as possible as quickly as possible. Odds are in many crimes it is the spouse, friend, or close associate that did it. The police are not your friends. If you have evidence relevant to a crime you should talk to a lawyer before talking to the police. Take a look at the movie "The Client". The kid was not naive, he had valuable information that he was able to trade for getting help for his mom and brother.

I hired one on a referral. Oh he was so good! He brought me a plea agreement, drop all charges for forfeiting my property. I said your fired to him right in court! I hire him to get my property back and he's working with them...
I was facing 38 years. They charged me with kidnapping my own kids and holding them hostage! They wanted my guns bad! I finally got disgusted and called the prosecuting Atty., at home on Sunday.
I siad, sir is this the prosecuting attorney? He said yes, I said I'm sorry to bother you at home sir but can we work something out? And I guess he liked how I talked or something but everybody knew that no one was held hostage. No one was hurt. It was a misunderstanding. So he made me pay court costs dropped all charges and released my property.
I showed up at the Evidence storage building and gave her my list of weapons and such that I was picking up. I seen her shaking her head as she walked away...she came back and said, you're right and we do have your property. She said how did you get them to do this? This is something that has never happened before. I said, I told them when they first came to my house that I was a good guy! She just looked at me.
I asked for my ammo and Brass Knuckles too but she had no answer about those items.
About six months after we wrapped it up and I got my guns back, I see my Attorney in the newspaper. He tried to let a suspect pay him with a large amount of Meth and he got scared fearing a setup, but the set up the Attorney instead and he walked right into it! They disbarred him and he did some time for it. Whoa. I had no clue he was like that.
You definitely have the basis here for some great stories in a movie or TV show.

I may talk a little bit different than folks over there, but our people are different, and the Government is different so I have to keep up, lol.
But Jesus told me, Nothing is more valuable than people are so help as much as you can. The least we do for our neighbor, is like giving it to Jesus Him self.
Theres the rub though. Jesus told me once, (I had just read be as wise as serpants and harmless as a dove) and He said much more is going on behind the scenes than anybody knows. So do not let anyone into your inner circle unless I approve them first!

So what am I to think? Perhaps a small but necessary lie is not counted as a lie because, it's not a way of life for me? Maybe but no liars in heaven speaks very clearly in my mind.
But Jesus, you had not approved him yet, so I lied a bit so he wouldn't know...?? So maybe I'm safe? I am not sure Brothers & Sisters.
Yes ! U r correct , I love your honesty . I bet your kids think u were the greatest dad in the world , u have certainly given them lots of stories to tell their own children , u won't ever be forgotten that's for sure
