If an Officer asked me a sensitive question that I don't want to answer, I could say, well I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you Lol! And injecting some slight humor to dodge answering the real question so you dont have to lie. If he persisted I could claim Family Scurity issues, I can take your question before the board and someone will get back to you...

It's hard to be quick witted with Cops without arousing more suspicion. Talk like a lawyer. The cop says a question, I plead the 5th. And did you...I plead the 5th. I don't answer questions. What's your name? Freda. Fread what? Freda Go. Freeda go? Thank you Officer (drives away...)

I didn't go looking for trouble, it came to me. I got in trouble two times in Colorado (sans Traffic Tickets) and both times I was at home. They didn't like me because I have so many guns. How can a guy get in trouble at home?! I'm glad the Lord told me to move away from there, lol. (Even though I didnt want to at first and told Him No!! I came around though. The good Lord was patient with me and so ta-da here I am where the Lord sent me.

I wish. But the scripture was true, in the divorce, she got the kids to dislike me and blame me for the breakup. Weird. But it's just like scripture says, the world turned against me...Within two months, I belonged to the Lord!

I pray for my kids because I pretty much let them down. I did not assume the spiritual leader role with them. So all I can do is pray for them now. And hope they call.

That's the question that comes up from Customers. The reason for a cost x sold for Y is because it takes money to pay for the part of front and have it with me.

Or, if I don't have the right part then I have to go get one, and that takes time and gas and insurance and all that stuff.


Then they ask this question, can you discount the labor?

So it's hard to make money fixing furnaces because parts are expensive and you almost can't discount the parts so any discount would have to come straight from the labor.

Now the rule was (it's good to be the boss!) If I walk into her house and it's cold in there, and I can tell they can't afford it, but they need heat. I'll give them a discount if I can still make some money. I started making a service call charge for $25. Then I could easily not write in a Service Call and so she gets her discount but the Labor is untouched. My kids need shoes and a bike too, lol.

It's a balancing act of money, enough of a discount so they can have heat and many times I gave them 10% off parts and still had enough togive to the wife for our frigerators and so forth.

One guy, I fixed his Boiler. He had a bad zone valve and I had to go get one but it was in stock. So I told him the price of it sitting in my truck. Do I go get it? Yes fix the Boiler. So I did, went and bought one and installed it, and everything was fine and he was happy when I left. Later when I was back at the shop he called me up and was yelling that I ripped him off. He said he got the box and looked up those valves and found out that he could order one for about 1/2 price of what I charged for the zone valve. But it would have to be shipped to him. The supply houses mark them up too so guys like me can come get what we need today with no waiting. I sold that zone valve to this man for list price. I had to fax him a copy of the receipt to show that I paid what he paid. I gave him their phone number. He called them, how much is this Bell & Howell zone valve? They always say, who am I talking to? A customer? Then they quote list price to them. List price wasn't much higher than the wholesale cost so he still didnt like it and wanted a refund of the part down to what his price would be to order one. So I said, well we can install your parts. When you have a problem, the technician can give you all the information on what you need and then call us back to come install it.
You wouldn't come the same day? And you havent even ordered the part yet? How's that work? And he knew he was not ripped off.

But dangit, people try everything to get it done for next to nothing. Oh they want us to be prepared. They want us to be educated and sharp techs. They want us to be insured. And now they want a discount! It can be rough sometimes!

Ohhh. I was thinking of, like, a car mechanic. Our mechanic recently had to have parts shipped to them for our van. I can see adding in the cost of shipping and, obviously, there's the cost of labor (workman is worth his wage). I just don't get overcharging for a part in that scenario.

On the flip side we had an electrician do some work last year and he had to run to the store for some materials so adding in for gas, etc makes sense. Though he apparently gets a discount for parts from the local stores (and he didnt upcharge us). I only figured that out when I had to buy an extra light fixture (we had miscounted how many were needed) and noticed the price I paid at the SAME store was more than what he charged us, for an identical fixture.

I went to drive her home and didnt realize my headlights were out (husband had been working on them earlier). Lady officer pulls me over, we talk about the lights, she tells me to go straight home. I was like, "Friend, I guess you're spending the night!"

Almost home...I can SEE my house...a different cop pulls me over. I roll down my window and I'm cracking up. Before he can say a word i say, "Let me guess, you pulled me over because of my headlights? I was JUST pulled over by female cop and she said o go straight home. My house is RIGHT there." And I point across the street.

He calls to confirm with lady cop and sends us on our way across the street, him watching the whole time.

I told friend that 2 redheads driving around at night without headlights must have looked pretty sus.

I'm so sorry to hear that , I'm sure there will come a day when they think about all the fun they had with u when they were kids , let's hope that day is soon . U r not old enough to have been my dad but I did have an uncle who u remind me of a bit . I loved him to bits and will always think of him as a cool guy . One day your kids will think that way of u too I'm sure . Is there no chance of u reconciling with them ?

My first car was a 60 Chevelle and I bought it for $110. !! It was in great shape too! I miss that car!

Yeah the limit in C. Springs is 12" from the curb. Nice huh? Basteges! Lol.

Usually more is not added in, they just stay on the clock as billable time to fetch it. Gotta have the right part to fix it! So nothing extra has to e added in, but it's covered by labor

One time cops had me pulled over and somehow they said we're going to search your truck, and I was in my work truck and it was full of all sorts of small parts and gas line and water line fittings and way too much junk to list, a working truck, and I never did play the wake and bake. I was all business. So I said ok go ahead. and that cop got into the back of my truck and was sitting on a toolbox and looking around wondering where to start, lol! He picked up a fitting, and shook his head and got out. He wasnt about to search through that entire truck, lol.

Oh yeah, eventually. We did have a lot of fun together and I taught them boys how to shoot, how to hunt, and to respect life, don't be stupid! And that stuck, praise the Lord.

Every once in awhile my younger son does call me. When he needs money and mom said no, lol. I helped him out. It's only money but I try not to give him too much, he's a 38 yr old man now! They both have a good work ethic.
