He is most likely an atheist wanna be with a popular loophole talking point.
Simply challenge him to describe how he is protecting the dignity of his faith and the dignity of his live-in girlfriend.

I'm no troll. I am a man who takes his faith seriously.
I am isolated, taking care of my wife with dementia, and I thought foolishly that there may be some outlet for Christian connection online.

Instead, I see pettiness and vanity.

I agree with you. My recommendation to him was to talk or pray to God since God calls all the shots, and the poster wouldn't. What real Christian wouldn't first talk to God about something that matters to them?? Plus he couldn't provide his ow salvation testimony. Every real Christian has a salvation testmony..

So let the poster live as he wants. The poster will find out the hard way. 🫠

What is your testimony?
Here is mine:

I was raised by loving, Christian (Southern Baptist) parents, who were happily married for 70 years. I attended church regularly as a child, and about the age of eight I had enough courage to walk the aisle during an invitation and profess publicly my faith in Jesus by being baptized.

My personality was rather introverted as a teenager, so I discussed my beliefs only with a few close friends. When I was a senior in high school, my favorite teacher was a former preacher turned agnostic, and in my freshman year of college, the daughter of a missionary became an atheist. My ignorance of answers to questions asked by skeptics prompted me to read the entire Bible, which I did over the course of my life in four translations, each time making notes in the margins to connect verses on various themes.

After college and military service I attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where a professor of systematic theology, Dr. William Hendricks, stimulated my thinking. During this time I heard a debate on the radio between Christian evangelist Bob Harrington and atheist Madalyn Murray O’Hair. Although the exchange was quite humorous, I was chagrined to concede that the atheist won the debate on substance, and I determined to seek better replies to such questions and criticisms as I continued searching Scripture.

Years later as a military chaplain, I encountered the Atheist Community of Austin and offered to speak at one of their meetings. I also debated atheists on an online chat site for several years. Although I cannot claim to have converted any of them, the discussions helped hone my beliefs, which I published on a website <truthseekers fellowship.com> in 2005. In 2018 and 2019 I published two booklets, The Best Belief and The Christian Creed, which I also put on the website for folks to use as a resource. (A book by Dinesh D’Souza, “What’s So Great about God”, and the movie “God’s Not Dead”, have a similar approach to apologetics.)

The following excerpts from “Love God with All Your Mind” by J.P. Moreland expresses my experience: “I used to be afraid of witnessing… I was rather defensive and nervous… But now I understand why I believe, and this has brought me both peace and a non-defensive boldness to witness to others.” (p.20) “Sunday School should be more effective in training believers how to think carefully about their faith. Training in apologetics should be a regular part of discipleship.” (p.26) “Our discipleship materials often leave Christian young people vulnerable to atheistic college professors.” (p.28) “The apostle Paul… reasoned with and tried to persuade people intelligently to accept Christ.” (p.30)

1 Peter 3:15b instructs Christians to “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have…”–IOW, to share our testimony. Our testimony is how we became and why we remain a Christian. I have explained how I became a Christian in this bio.

It's a nice testimony but I didn't ask you.

I just want to know how the OP found Jesus, because he doesn't seem to know Jesus like new born again Christians do.

He's always referring to his pastor and what his pastor taught him, never what Jesus taught him.

Lead by example; practice what you request.
I suggest typing a bio that one can post on CC at relevant points, such as this one.

I've been living with my girlfriend and we are exclusive not dating anybody else and are committed to one another

So why is this not considered being married?

Can anybody show my in the bible where we are told to get a marriage certificate and go before a judge so he can pronounce us man and wife in order to be married?

Gen 2:24 says: 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Jesus also quoted this in the Gospel of Matthew and other replaces after the Religious leaders asked about divorce.

Matthew 19:

3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”

The word "Divorce" means what ? it is a written statement of Divorce or a certificate. If one needs that to leave his why that means there was something to legitimize the marriage. Jesus went on to say :

4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

7 They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?”
8 He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.”

in THE CONTEXT OF THE WORD OF GOD, Marriage is a legal binding covenant between God man and the women.

What God has joined together let no one separate.

in all marriages seen in the word of GOD there was a ceremony from the time of Moses and in the day of Jesus. The first miracle did was performed at a wedding. what is a wedding? or Marriage ?

  1. a wedding or marriage festival, a wedding banquet, a wedding feast

who has a banquet without calling friends and family? who hide the ring or their marriage by not obeying the laws of the land? Why would one not want to do what we see as a celebration of two coming together?

This shows us Marriage is a Contract( Covenant), a legal action that ones needs a certificate to get out of as Jesus said in Mathew 19:7. Therefore Marriage is not two people shacking up and calling it marriage. You will not find that in the word of God.

No, you're a control freak.

You're like Satan using Bible verses to try to get Jesus to do his bidding.

I don't have to go along with anything you want. Yes God showed me that.

🤨

So, my testimony is "nice", but showing you what God says in 1Pet. 3:15 is Satanic?
The second time was NOT charming!

And I see a 180 from your #55.
I acknowledged a kindness.
Again, we're taking away from the OP.

Liking a post that said I am like Satan is very unkind.
Obeying 1Pet. 3:15 did NOT take away from the OP,
which included JW's bio: "I've been living with my girlfriend and we are exclusive
not dating anybody else and are committed to one another"
I sense a pattern of not connecting.

I've had some sleep and time to think.

Look, you may not like how @2ndTimeIsTheCharm did it, but she recognized your significant blind spot.
Her observation caused me to reread your testimony, and I noticed some red flags.

It's not a matter of "I understand the scriptures better than you, may the best brain cells win."

God speaks through scripture, of course. But he speaks through events, interactions, and circumstances too. Relationships with each other are a major goal. These elements are how God brings to mind the Bible's applications.

I don't care so much about hijacking the thread anymore; there is a far more important issue at stake. The OP isn't sincere anyway. If he were, he would care about bringing shame to his girlfriend and her reputation with her family and society.
You know he feels guilt simply by his question.

@2ndTimeIsTheCharm, this post definitely relates to the OP and takes off from your post above.

I don't call how I handle the scripture "apologetics".
Apologetics was how the Pharisees and Sadducees debated, dogmatically and always in the right.

I speak about my faith as the best of my Christian understanding with as much humility and honesty as I can muster, always hoping my inclination is to learn by being sensitive to the voice of God.

Corruption has come into the church through the institutions. For some reason, respect for theologians has replaced truth. The bureaucracy of denominations has turned the Church into a business. This is why we are seeing the young, like the OP, deconstruct the Bible and win so many converts to atheism. They are traumatized by the hypocrisy of professing Christians.

Well, I see that after sleeping and thinking you still like her cruelty.

Rather than red flagging my testimony, how about sharing yours?
If you don't want to share it here, how about on the Apologetics thread,
which OP is based on 1Peter 3:15?

My testimony wouldn't hold a candle to yours. Mine involves burglary, theft, vandalism, drugs, illicit sex, and more.
God must use you when he needs the heavy hitters to speak for Him.

Testimonies are not competitions.
Apologetics means 1Peter 3:15 = testimony.
I encourage you to type and save your testimony for easy sharing.
You and 2ndTime are cruel and examples of corruption, not kindness or connection.
