When Jesus told the crowd in John 6 to “believe in the One whom God has sent,” He was not teaching a shallow belief with no change of life. In the same chapter Jesus explains what real belief looks like. He says later in this same talk that anyone who comes to Him must eat His flesh and drink His blood which means to receive His life, follow Him, and stay in Him. And in many other places Jesus explains very clearly what true belief does.
Jesus said in John 14:15, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” The word “if” shows a condition. The word “keep” shows action. Jesus never separates belief from obedience. For Him, belief means trust, loyalty, and following His words.
In John 8:31 Jesus says, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.” Real belief stays with His teaching and does not walk away from it. In Matthew 7:21 Jesus warns, “Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” Here Jesus shows that faith that does not obey is empty.
The rich young ruler asked Jesus how to have eternal life. Jesus answered in Matthew 19:17, “If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” Jesus then listed several of the Ten Commandments. This shows that for Jesus, belief is not an idea only. It is a life lived in obedience from the heart.
Some people try to use one sentence of Jesus to cancel all His other words, but Scripture never works that way. Jesus speaks with one voice everywhere. When He says “believe,” He means the kind of belief that follows Him, listens to Him, and obeys Him. When He says “keep My commandments,” He is describing the same thing. Faith and obedience are one life, not two separate things.
You reject Jesus words because you do not want to obey. Jesus said in John 3:19 that light has come into the world but people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. When the heart refuses the light, the words of Jesus become closed to them. But those who want truth will always come to the light, and the light will show them how to walk.
if you refuse Jesus's commandments how to you expect to enter heaven? Jesus was perfectly clear about it when he said in Matthew 19:17, “If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
